musicmatch 8.0 and 2.0.1 update

My apologies if this has been brought up before...I just wanted to see if anybody else has this same problem...

I have a 30g ipod....loaded my music and everything was good until i saw that i had mulitple artists listed EX: allman bros, clapton, clapton, clapton, etc...also it does the same thing with my playlists except it's with the songs....

now, i called apple and they told me to update from 7.5 musicmatch to 8.0 and to make sure that i had the latest update from apple (2.0.1)... and then reset my ipod and then reload the music, he seemed sceptical that it would work, but said thats what they are told to tell us with this problem....Now, i did this, but the problem didnt go away....so i tried to do it again and i could'nt finish the sync with the computer, a "server busy" warning would pop up and would not let me sync up again....

now here is the problem, i wrote musicmatch on their website and their response was that 2.0.1 was not compatible yet with musicmatch and that i had to downgrade from 8.0 to 7.5 and from 2.0.1 to 2.0.....has anybody had this happen and did they remedy the situation? I understand that the tag issue is due to spaces behind the artists (most of the time thats the situation anyway) but has anybody had the 'server busy?'

I appreciate your help.

I dont really know much about musicmatch etc.. but i reckon that the only update you need is to have 2.0.1.
THe next update is really simple. Uninstall music match and install eephpod and music center 9.
Problem solved!

No,but it wouldn't surprise me. I've used MM for over two years, and just did the upgrade to 8.0. Alot of the stuff that was supposed to have been fixed with the new upgrade hasn't been... I could go on forever. The customer service there sorta sucks, and I've learned to take whatever they tell me with a grain of salt. That is, if they ever respond. At this point, I'm ready to try ephod, which you can download for free,or Xplay, where you can try it out on a trial basis.

First off folks, I'm moving this thread to the MMJB section as it should not have been posted in this thread.

Then I'm going to give you some advice. Switch off of MMJB. Any of the other programs are light-years ahead of it in terms of quality and speed.

MC9, Xplay ephpod. You can check them all out in the software compendium sticky thread (Windows-Software).

The multiple artist thing is a known bug w/MMJB. Search the MMJB boards for more info.

Haven't seen your specific problem, but... (perhaprs this should be a new post)

I have an 30gb iPod, MusicMatch 7.50.5002aApple (out of the box) and iPod software version 2.0.1. This is running on a P4 1.82GHz with native firewire and 1gb RAM. I previously used a 10gb iPod with the MMJB version which shipped with that unit on the same PC - with no problems whatsoever. Was quite stisfied. Now I have the 30gb withn its version 9of MMJB. I have no problem. My music library is ~17mb. I had no trouble installing MMJB, the iPod plugin and manager. I had no trouble formatting the iPof for Windows or using NNJB to download my tunes initially. BUT (and it's a BIG BUTT) I have a persistent problem syncing the iPod after I've made changes to my MMJB library. Again, no trouble ripping new CDs into the library. None of the specific problems reported here. After making changes to my music library, I get an error half way thru the "Preparing to Sync" process sequence. I assume MMJB is sorting or collating at this point because it never reaches the actual start of the download to the iPod. The progress indicator bars continues to increment right up to the time I get the error:

PortablesRun has encountered a problem and needs to close.
PortablesRun Error Signature
AppName: mmjbportables.exe AppVer: 7.50.5.2 ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.1106 Offset: 00013887
Exception Information
Code: 0xe06d7363 Flags: 0x00000001
Record: 0x0000000000000000 Address: 0x0000000077e73887

This has the effect of aborting MMJB without the benefit of ejecting the iPod first. So, bottom line, I can't sync my iPod to MMJB just to update iPod. Each time I want my iPod to reflect the changes I've made with MMJB, I have to re-format and reinitialize the iPod and use MMJB to download the ENTIRE library to the empty iPod. Does this really suck? YES IT DOES. I posed this same info in a "Request for Tech Suuport" (that's cozy) at thier website, but I'm not optimistic for a quick reply.

Has anyone experienced this problem before? Didn't see any hit on the useer forums, so am I the ONLY one with this problem? Would appreciate any insight/guidance/pep talks you

I've had the same problem w/ mmjb 7.5.5002a and 2.01. I had about 6 GB on my ipod and had added about 4-5 more GB into my MMJB library. When I tried to synch it made it about half way through the preparing to synch before locking up. While looking at the task manager every item was maxed out (cpu usage, memory etc.)

After restarting my computer, I tried againg and this time it worked. It still struggled with the preparing to synch and I thoght it might lockup but it didn't. When it switched to actually synching that went very fast. Probably about 15 minutes including the preparing to synch part.

I don't synch that often probably only once a month as I add music so I dont really want to switch programs but am wondering about others success with upgrading to 8.0 or "downgrading" to 7.5.3003.

# 6 Re: musicmatch 8.0 and 2.0.1 update
I got a response from Tech Support regarding my sync problem with version MusicMatch 7.50.5002aApple. They gave me a link to a newer version 7.50.5005 which they claimed would correct my problem. Didn't bother to say what the problem was - and I felt as though this was just the first thing they always tell people to try. Deinstalled the older version and MMJB and the plugin and installed the new versions. I already had iPod software 2.0.1 so I skipped that part. I am cuatiusly optimistic at this point. The new version read my music library, still remembered my preferences, looked and smelled as if it hadn't been updated. I ripped 2 more CDs and deleted 2 CDs in the library, then tried a sync. This would have failed before, but now it works fine. I've now tried 3 updates and syncs of various sorts and all is well. Haven't had time yet to see if this newer version addresses any of the tagging problems referred to by others in this this forum.

So I'm going to continue using MMJB while I re-rip my CDs to a new directory using EAC. Once I have the new library created with the better codec (months from now?) , I'll decide whether to go to EphPod or wait for iTunes/Windows. I hear iTunes will ship with native AAC and MP3 VBR. :p

Hello Brian.

If you didn't get it sorted already here's my advice.

Remove the tracks by artists appearing multiple times on the iPod. Then in MusicMatch Library select all tracks from the artists that did appear more than once on the iPod (select all tracks by one artist at a time) and "edit tags". Then select Artist - check that there aren't any excess spaces after the artist name and "Apply".

Now send the artists to the iPod again and things should be alright.

Oh - by the way - I'm using the very latest software: 2.0.1 and 8.0.

bowersj-

Can you post the link for 7.5.5005 and the steps that you used to install it. I looked on their site but can only find 8.0. I am at work and dont have MMJB installed on my computer here and that seems to be the only way to report problems to them is through their software.

Thanks.

# 10 Re: musicmatch 8.0 and 2.0.1 update
It appears as though some people are successfully using MMJB 8.0 with iPod software 2.0.1 - and others are failing with this combination. Sounds as if 8.0 solves the tagging problem(s), but it also sounds as if Apple is telling people to upgrade to 8.0 while the MusicMatch people are saying stay on 7.5. Does anyone have the definitive word on what will and will not work? Since I'm really interested in an "all-in-one" solution (ripping into high quality MP3s/AAC, managing the library, and syncing to iPod), I'm really looking forward to replacing MMMJB with iTunes/Windows later this year. Until then, though, what's the OPTIMUM configuration for MMJB and iPod software? Thanks all.

# 11 Re: musicmatch 8.0 and 2.0.1 update
Did you uninstall 7.5.5002a and the plug in before you installed 7.5.5005 or just install on top of 7.5.5002a?

Thanks again.

# 12 Re: musicmatch 8.0 and 2.0.1 update
Here's a cut and paste of the e-mail I got from Tech Support. I did exactly as described with one exception. I already had iPod software version 2.0.1 on my iPod, so I skipped the final portion of the install that would install 2.0.1 on your computer and then re-format and reinitialize eh iPod. I NECESSARY did NOT want to do that and be forced (again) to download my entire music library. Anyway, it worked. I ended up with the new MMJB on my computer without having to actually touch the iPod. The fix to my problem was within MMJB itself - not the plug-in, not the iPod software, and not with the iPod 'Manager'. Here's exactly what thy sent me:

Hello,

I apologize for the difficulty you are experiencing using MusicMatch Jukebox.

The difficulty that you are experiencing should be resolved in a combination of the new MusicMatch Jukebox 7.50.5005 Apple OEM version and the iPod 2.0.1 firmware update. These packages are available in a bundle from the following page:

http://www.musicmatch.com/download/free/?OS=pc&OEM=APPLE

Please use the following process to remove the previous version of MusicMatch Jukebox and the iPod software prior to installing the new package:

1. Open the "Add or Remove Programs" control panel.
2. Select and uninstall the iPod for Windows item.
3. Select and uninstall the MusicMatch Jukebox item.
4. Close the "Add or Remove Programs" control panel.
5. Go to the "\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MusicMatch Jukebox" directory on your hard drive.
6. Select all files, but not folders, in this directory and drag these items into the Recycle Bin.
7. Restart your computer.
8. Reinstall MusicMatch Jukebox and the iPod plugin using the new software installation package you downloaded.
9. Restart your computer.
10. Connect the iPod to your system and start MusicMatch Jukebox.

You will need to use the iPod 2.0.1 firmware updater to update your iPod device. This updater can be found in the Start menu under "Programs > iPod > System Software 2.0.1 > Updater".

If you continue to experience trouble, please resubmit your issue through "Request Technical Support" from the Help menu.

--------------------------
Hope this helps you out. -Regards from SF

# 13 Re: musicmatch 8.0 and 2.0.1 update
I downloaded the 7.50.5005 software upgrade and followed all of the posted steps to install it. Everything was the same as 7.50.5002a that I had just uninstalled. I ripped two cd's and then edited a couple of track tags that were repeating on the ipod.

Next it was time to synch. The preparing to synch part which used to take about 10 minutes and usually did not work only took about 15-20 seconds. The actually synching took under 5 minutes, i'm not really sure because I left my computer and when I got back five minutes later it was all done. Now my tags are all correct and I dont have any repeating artists.

I am one happy ipoder.
