Switching syncing programs?
I currently use Ephpod, but seeing all the hype about MediaCenter9, I figured I'd try it out. From what it looks like, I'd probably have to format my iPod for use with MediaCenter9. Is this true? If not, how do I get along without formatting and losing my 22 GB of music?

You'll have to format it. This is pretty typical as the different programs handle the iPod's database differently.
I suggest you copy the tunes off of the iPod to your HDD first, just grab the entire ipod_control/music folder.
Then, when you get MC9 loaded, import those tunes into MC9's library. Use the handy "Rename Files From Properties" feature to rename (essentially move) the files into Album/Artist folders and named w/a convention you like. You don't have to follow that structure or naming convention. MC9 offers a number of defaults to chose from, or you can create your own.
Then, simply re-upload them.
MC9 is a program that depends on you having your media on your PC and on the iPod. So if you don't have your tunes on your PC, it's not for you.
I would advise you though not to trust the iPod as your sole source for your tunes..portable media is just too risky. I've lost one iPod through no fault of my own. I shudder to think what I would have done if that was the only place I'd had my data.

Thanks for the information, Adam ;)

I have a somewhat similar question -- my girlfriend uses MMJB and I decided that EphPod is the program for me (just got my IPod and need to figure out how to really use EphPod, but that project's fodder for another post). Is there any way that, for example, I can sync my 'pod off of her computer? I know, ideally, we'd rip CDs onto both computers, but that gets to be a hassle.
From what you're saying above, it sounds like the way that MMJB and EphPod handle their files is fundamentally different so it's not as simple as just syncing my fully-loaded IPod with her computer. Rather than fooling around trying to get the two programs to somehow work together, it sounds like the best plan is to either just use the IPod as a Firewire HD and copy the files to the IPod and from there to my computer (since it sounds like I'd have to reformat my IPod to use it with her MMJB). Going the "portable HD" route would let me add the songs directly into my EphPod database after putting them on my computer.
Would that approach work? Is there an easier way to do it? I've been tempted to stick with MMJB just so our computers work together but, after MMJB somehow mysteriously didn't transfer any album/artist names (despite files being tagged correctly), I've decided to do it right from the start and go the EphPod route.
Any thoughts on how to make this work would be great. Thanks in advance!

You could do it either way:
1) install ephpod on her computer, connect your iPod and do Add Songs/Add Directory. They should copy over fine
2) Just copy the songs to a temporary folder on your iPod, (one you create), then move them off onto your PC the same way. Tag them (correctly) and reupload them through ephpod on your computer.
