Ephpod 2.70a bug

After much testing, I have detmined that v2.70a does not always properly determine the length and bit rate of VBR encoded files, hence, as an example: a file with a play time of say 6 minutes, may show in ephod during the xfer to iPod as having a play time of 41 minutes and a bit rate of 32, when in fact, other applications on the PC looking at the same file on the PC correctly report the duration and bit rate. The added problem with this, is that it would seem this information is transfered to the iPod, hence, that 6 minute song, while it plays fine on the iPod, will show as having 41 minutes remaining when the song starts and 35 minutes remaining when the song ends - annoying.

oh dear. I've just installed it, I'll check this out myself and see if my machine is the same.

i haven't noticed this bug yet, how were the files encoded exactly? Which programme did you use?

The mp3 were encoded with several different compressors, also, note that in general a high quality rating was used on the VBR files and that problematic files all report the correct length and bit rate using several different programs on Windows - hence, the problem doesn't take place until the Ephpod xfer to the iPOD.

I've noticed the same thing with the new Ephpod truncating certain VBR songs. Old version worked fine. I reripped a couple songs in question using CBR and they played fine.

More troubling to me is that twice in the last two weeks, after adding songs to the Ipod via Ephpod, all directories, songs, etc. disappear from the Ipod. (although if you go out to Windows Explorer and check, they're still all there...seems it's the directories or something that's getting scrambled.) Transferring goes fine, saving changes goes fine, "ejecting" Ipod from computer goes fine...just when you fire up the Ipod after updating with Ephpod, nuthin's there! I laboriously added my 4,800+ songs BACK on and then there was only 1 playlist listed. For some reason, I manually clicked on each playlist name in Ephpod before exiting and voila! the Ipod showed all songs and playlists again.

All if fine, for the moment, but I'm paranoid to let Ephpod touch the Ipod again for fear of "losing" everything for the third time in two weeks!

Any suggestions other than attempting to go back to a previous version of Ephpod? Annnnd, if I do find a previous version, do I have to go through this mess of wiping Ipod clean and try, try, trying again?

Don't get me wrong, I love the Ipod. It's just that this reformatting and retransferring songs every few daze is getting very old.

There is a 2.70A beta which supports mp4's. Oh, and I've never seen this bug, and all of my mp3's are encoded with EAC/Lame 3.92.
