Watchfolders in MC9
I have just switched from Musicmatch+Ephpod to MC9. How can I make MC9 import all mp3s from a directory into the library, and add files to the library when they're added to the folder(or sub folders), a bit like MMJB's Watchfolders?
Thanks

edit: it's ok, I found out

You did? I mean, I know how to add media, but I don't think MC9 supports watchfolders.
I think they've chosen not to implement it due to performance issues, but I'm not sure.

Yeah well partially, I added all the files from my music folder, but apparently it doesn't see when I change the files, so i'll have to find how to tell it to look for new files and remove ones that aren't there anymore. Only thing that was good in Musicmatch, they should have implemented it....
performance issues? MMJB ran fine on my PIII 500 with Watchfolders on, so I think they're just lazy....:p

I've been using MC9 for about 2 hours, it has cool features but is slightly buggy, and it rips at ridiculously slow speeds, even when large digital buffer is selected, is it the lame encoder?
Also is there a command line switch like Ephpod's SYNCHANDQUIT when I want to synch quickly?
Thanks

Before you start ripping, pardon the pun, on the software you should do some research. It rips slow because it ripping in secure mode not burst mode like MMJB. Secure mode does a CRC check on the wav to make sure it's the exact same as the CD.
Also about the Watchfolders. Just use the update media to search through all your songs. I have about 10,000 MP3's and MPC's on my computer and it only takes about 1 min to search through all the files to find new ones.
Also the Update Library command will remove any files that are no longer present on your computer. Once again this is very fast.

Right, you must remember that you're gaining quality and sacrificing speed. I had a number of CDs ripped w/MMJB before I discovered MC9. Re-ripped 'em all because of pops, scratches just garbage. And if you want the best quality (you're not getting that w/the default settings), check out some of dmt1's posts. That way you can use the best LAME encoder settings and use Digital Secure to get the best rip. This will be even slower than what you're getting now, but heh, you pay for quality right and you'll only have to do it once.
Regarding Media Libary. I highly recommend that you do all your management through MC9. So, if you want to delete tunes off your PC, delete them in MC9 (and select the option to remove them from the PC as well). When you want to move files, Import them from where they are, then use the "Rename Files From Properties" function to get them moved to your central music location.
This prevents the need for Watch folders. With the exception of downloaded music, which takes a quick click of the button, and then a Rename Files after you've got them tagged. It'll even delete empty folders for you if you ask it to.
