Ephpod does not recognize iPod

please help this newbie...

i have a 30gb ipod and use ephpod but i have to re-load ephpod and undock/re-dock my ipod a bunch of times before it gets recognized. sometimes it registers but when i try to load music it says "not enough space." i only have 400 songs on it. at this point the ipod seems to have undocked itself without me releasing it. it looks like maybe my pc does not recogize the ipod or doesn't recoginze it in time. i am using usb2.0 but this problem seemed to be worse using firewire. please help!!!

hi,

i would start debugging this by cleaning out what you have installed.. uninstall ephpod, ipod manager, ipod plugins, ipod updater, musicmatch etc. that is any software related to the ipod.

now simply connect your ipod to the dock, and see if windows recognizes your new "external storage device". if it does, you know your ipod and the usb are fine. if it doesnt...umm, well lets get to that later.

now install only the ipod updater by from apple cd, by browsing the cd and running the setup from the updater dir. after this install ephpod. now see if ephpod recognizes the ipod and hold the connection.
ask ephpod to rebuild the ipod database.

hope this helps.

I tried following ashawley instructions to install ephpod . It is a new computer so i was doing a fresh install. I put in the CD, and i canceled the set up process midway through.

I went to the C;|Program Files...|Ipod Updater and copied Updater.exe to my desk top.
( I dont know what the instruction means to navigate to CD path to D:\Program files... meant, there is no path like that on the CD)

I connected the IPOD and ran the updater.exe

Clcked on restore, and followed the instructions.

But finally when i start up ephpod, it says it needs to build directory structure. When i say ok, PC responds "Cannot creat :\ipod_control

What did I do wrong?. I had all kinds of garbage on my other computer when i installed the APPLE CD software, so i dont want to use that.

lucky6666: navigate to your iPod drive in Explorer. Delete the ipod_control folder. You need to have "show hidden files and folders" enabled in Explorer. If you don't see the folder, go to Options or something like that in Explorer. Delete the folder then restart Ephpod. Ephpod should be able to build its own ipod_control folder again.
