Nifty Skin for MC9

Check out this nifty new skin (http://www.home.earthlink.net/~ashawley01/images/itunes_mc9.gif). :)

It's not an official one yet, probably won't be, but you can get it at the JRiver boards. Compliments of its creator, JC.

The forums aren't putting the link up right...here's where it is:

Looks nifty no? :D

Did you ever see the "cow" skin? I think it's still over there at Jriver--not very functional, but kinda cool (and funny). The amazing thing about it was it was that person's first try at an MC9 skin--he was only goofing around, and the skin was pretty amazing--apparently the comments sparked him into creating some new ones--can't wait, that guy is good...

Kurt--I'm assuming you're talking about the cow skin, since Adam has a link to his:

The cow skin is right here:

http://www.knickelfarz.privat.t-online.de/mc_gui/KingCowSkin.zip

It was posted over at Jriver on the forum, but not in the skin section--here is THAT link:

http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=MediaCenter;action=display;num=1055 434245

**edit**

If you check out the MC9 link, it appears that the cow skin is temporarily out of service--I can't get it to work on build 203--but hopefully it will be back soon--it's more of a novelty (although a very cool one) than anything else--I can't wait to see what else this guy comes up with though...

Oh no, not the cow one, the iTunes one, :)

So whatcha got against cows??

I think this forum displays an unfair bias against quadrapeds...Ok, so they can't type, make a big mess on the floor, and are stinky, but they have rights--and deserve their own skin--too! Besides, they taste good...

Thanks for the kind words Adam.

Glad you guys like the skin. Kinda odd color mixture in areas as certain colors are shared between unlikely areas of the application. For this reason, I didn't mess with the option dialogs very much.

Hopefully, the skin structure for 9.1 will settle down soon enough and I will begin making a "full" skin in earnest. Basically, I wanted the iTunes style on my WinXP box ...

BTW - The only reason I found out about Media Center 9, which is a wonderful program, is because I read about it on this board ;)

hehe, way to go J_C! We're crossing the streams of boards here.

Hey, if you're interested in screen shots of the Brushed look from Apple, I've got theme and visual style all set up for it. You can do it yourself if you haven't already by downloading some of the stuff from Iceman's Emulation Page (http://www.jonmega.com/~iceman/).

If you don't already have it, it might help you in making sure you're following the schemes correctly and what not.

I noticed that the buttons in the MC9 skin need a little tweaking, but man o' man it looks great. :D

Thanks for the link ... actually, my skin was based solely on screenshots I could google of Mac OSX and iTunes.

This visual style is excellent and allows me to see the scheme much more clearly.

Thank you for the information, I'm tweaking the skin right now.

Great!

Glad it all worked out. I was thinking that it might be of help.

Let us know when the new skin is out. Could you post here as well as the JRiver boards so everyone get's a chance to check it out? If not, I'll do it fer ya. ;)

New version is available here (http://home.mindspring.com/~jc2000/images/MC9/iTune2.zip)

Screenshot here (http://home.mindspring.com/~jc2000/images/MC9/brushed.gif)

Changes
- Updated maximize, minimize, close buttons on the main window
- Changed scrollbars to a more accurate color
- Updated buttons and dialog boxes to be more usable
- Added border around all menus
- Utilized transparency around the status and search windows for better blending into the main window
- Added checkbox visuals
- Change theme name to "Brushed Metal"

To install, move the iTune2 folder inside the zip file (and all files inside) into your Media Center/MegaSkins folder. Activate the skin by enabling "Brushed Metal" from the skin manager.

Enjoy ... and if anyone knows how to make an installable iTune.mjp file, I would be appreciative.

I'm cross postin' between boards here but this new version is unbelievable J_C. Just great. The scrollbars being clear blue, the buttons look great, the progress indicator on Sync is perhaps my favorite! :)

Thanks for this, hopefully some skinner out there will help you out making it an installable and eventually JRiver will host it and make it official. That is, unless they get scared of Apple, but since you recreated all the artwork yourself (or borrowed it from someone that created it themselves), your covered.

Finally got around to downloading the skin--it is awesome!! Best skin I've seen for MC9 (It's even better than the cows). Strong work!! Jriver's gonna have to support it--it blows away the other skin options...

Nope - can't find "Brushed Metal" on my skin list.

# 20 Re: Nifty Skin for MC9
Palazzo, check your computer's HD and go into Jriver, then into megaskins--do you see the ipodtune2 file there (unzipped)?

If so, try rebooting your computer and trying again. If not, you've got to get the unzipped file in there for it to work.

# 21 Re: Nifty Skin for MC9
I couldn't find it through search or browse either. The folder is named iTune2, not sure why WinXP search couldn't find it. So I just downloaded again and watched where it was after it was unzipped (I think it was in a temp subdirectory with some gibberish name like 0DN4A89 or the like). Cut and pasted it into Mega-Me Skins in JRiver subdirectory and now "Brushed Metal" is there. It does look great thanks JC (and Adam for pointing it out), it's my favorite by a mile so far.

Thanks for the plug Adam ...

However, I want to mention that this mini-me skin has a few bugs. It has difficulty remembering the last display state sometimes. Call it amnesia, but I'll try to fix the bug and get an update posted soon.

If you don't mind this, you are more than welcome to play around with it. Just ignore the frustrating behavior when it happens.

Thanks!

hehe, sorry J_C. I should have asked you first and added that. I actually got the link from a post of Kurt's. Didn't check the JRiver board before I posted.

Oh, it does indeed rock sir! Great work. You've designed the best MC9 skin to date. I think most folks agree on that. :D :D

No need to ask ... I'm sorry I forgot to post the beta here. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew about the bug as it can be frustrating.

BTW - I have noticed the exact same behavior with the SonixMedia and Amped2 skins. I'm beginning to think it's a bug with the mini-me skinning engine ... but I'll try to code around the problem so that the player plays nice.

Hey JC:

I noticed you've made mucho changes to the mini-me skin...when does the mega get them (like adjusted images for button rollover).

:D

Actually, the button rollover images you are referring to were already in the mega-me skin. I added them to the mini-me to make the two skins more similar.

If, however, you are referring to the actual blended rollover that occurs in the mini-me skin ... this functionality is not supported with mega-me skins. The rollover is either on or off, no way to blend into another image :(

If you were referring to anything else, I apologize ... I've obviously misunderstood your post :) For feature requests, feel free to post here (or in my two threads at J.River) ... I'll try to add whatever I can.

This skin has been updated to work with build 9.1.214. Do not install this update unless you are using this build (or higher).

Installable MJP link (http://home.mindspring.com/~jc2000/images/MC9/brushed_metal.mjp)

IE users should be able to click on the link above. Other browsers may need to save the mjp file to their drive, then launch it to install the Brushed Metal update.

Thanks!

Also, the previous amnesia issue was a bug with Media Center 9 that was fixed in a previous build. This skin should stay put from now on ;)

Thanks!
