# 1 Re: iPod Software 2.0.1: Problem Reports
When i try to install it, it says "Error REading Setup Initialization File"
# 2 Re: iPod Software 2.0.1: Problem Reports
What OS are you running?
# 3 Re: iPod Software 2.0.1: Problem Reports
I was flashing to 2.0.1 this morning and it failed per a message. Now I am left with a screen on the ipod with a picture of a firwire connection. If I run updater, the update button is greyed out (like it thinks I have the latest). I did a restore and this seemed to get to 99% and the message told me it was complete and to wait for it to finish, but it hung there, never telling me to remove.
I had never used Ipodmanager prior to this and I think I may have screwed things up by ticking disk mode before I flashed. What are my options here? I was thinking of uninstalling the new software and then flashing back to 2.0 off the CD and then hopefully giving it another go.
Comments PLEASE!

LarryJoe - I know that the picture of the firewire symbol almost gave me a heart attack yesterday. I believe that symbol on your iPod merely means that it needs to be powered so that it can properly flush the new firmware. So connect it to power (either through the dock or directly), and then press play. After a minute or so, it should be good to go. :)

what i did after an unsuccesful try at updating....
i unplugged the ipod
re-installed v2.0.1
restarted
plugged the ipod back in
oped up the updater
updated to v2.0.1 (it might take long, but be patient)
after about 45 minutes i was done and happily enjoying the "new" ipod....

Thanks to both of you. I am at work freaking out that I may have fried my ipod (like a bad flash to a mobo or CD drive). Can't wait to get home to fix it.
# 8 Re: iPod Software 2.0.1: Problem Reports
I updated my ipod but now it doesn't work at all. It won't turn off and when I reset it, it resets but after scrolling to and selecting a new screen it pauses and won't do any thing else. It freezes. I can still here the clicker when i press buttons but nothing else happens. The computer won't even recognise its attached now either so i can't even restore it. what is wrong with it?
# 9 Re: iPod Software 2.0.1: Problem Reports
Here is what I did...
I have xplay 1.3 running in the background.
I installed the apple 2.0.1 updater.
Reboot
Insert Ipod
Ipod detected by XPLAY
Ipod detected by the updater
Proceed to update ipod
Pregress bar stopped at 9/10 way.
Ipod rebooted itself while it stays connected.
Ipod finished the pregress bar and rebooted again
Now ipod is forever stuck at the Apple Logo. I have tried pressing "Menu + Play/Pause" to reset the ipod and it is still stuck at the Apple screen.
Now my updater and my XPLAY won't recognize my IPOD. Any idea guys?
# 10 Re: iPod Software 2.0.1: Problem Reports
Here's my experience:
1. Install 2.0.1 software
2. Reboot
3. Start updater
4. Insert iPod
5. Start update
6. Update stops at 90%, gives error message "Can't mount iPod"
7. I freak out
8. After a 30min wait, I decide to try to unmount iPod
9. Unmount ok, but the updater cancels and goes back to "iPod not connected
10. Check iPod, seems to be working and showing 2.0.1 firmware
There seems to be some problems for some users, some people even ending up with dead iPods, so it might be a good idea to wait a little before updating to see if there are more people having problems.

I ended up formatting my ipod (luckily I have all of my music backed up in my HD) and it shows 2.0.1 afterwards. What a hassle.

It worked fine for me...I think.
1. ipod was docked and recognized by ipod manager.
2. clicked on update
3. update completed
4. the ipod rebooted and it showed the apple logo
5. asked me to unmount before disconnecting ipod
6. a pop up message appeared saying ipod manager wasn't able to read the ipod...that it was not the correct format. it asked me if i wanted to reformat (which meant wiping everything out). i closed the message.
7. ipod was NOT recognized by ipod manager nor MMJ
8. removed iPod and re-docked it.
9. ipod manager recognized it; as did MMJ
10. everything is still there. :D
The backlight still goes off after 15 seconds or so if i turn it on manually (I have the backlight set to off). So what the hell got fixed there?

worked, but "could not mount iPod"
1. installed massive download on win2000 PC.
2. rebooted.
3. connected iPod.
4. launched updater. progressed to ~90% as someone stated earlier, that said it couldn't "mount iPod". no cancel button choice, so I just closed the window.
5. un-booted/disconnected iPod from PC, checked firmware version - it's 2.0.1.
6. checked version on PC - it's 2.0.1.
i still hear a slight tick between tracks, though it may be the mp3s i'm using (pearl jam's live show from vegas in june '03)

# 15 Re: iPod Software 2.0.1: Problem Reports
I ran the updater, and the "update" button was greyed out (but not the restore). So I quit and then tried to unmount my Ipod from my Win XP "safely remove hardware" device manager but that failed. I restarted Windows and then found out later that this manager seemed to be conflicting with the newly installed IPod Manager (which I never used before -- originally I only installed the updater from ipod CD).
So I tried a few combinations of mounting/unmounting my pod and running the updater but same thing (I even uninstalled the Ipod Manager and still made no difference -- except now I don't get any conflicts when unmounting).
Just to check that the updater didn't do anything (as it seems to take a while after you run it before you can select anything), my Ipod still says F/W version 2.0
Any suggestions...besides trying the restore (my last resort)?
thx!
# 16 Re: iPod Software 2.0.1: Problem Reports
When I try to install the iPod software, I get an error messages saying
1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime.
What does that mean and what do I do??!!
# 17 Re: iPod Software 2.0.1: Problem Reports
Mr. K1M
I have same problem with Win Xp on my PC.
I hate this cant use my Ipod that I just got!
# 18 Re: iPod Software 2.0.1: Problem Reports
Are you getting the error when trying to install 2.0.1 on your computer, or your ipod?
(Assuming you have the 2.0.1 update on your computer): If you have the update on your computer, are you trying to run it from the ipod mangager? If so, try plugging your ipod, then instead of using the ipod manager, go into my computer, find the ipod 2.0.1 update (Mine is in Program Files>Ipod>Updater_2.0.1) and try running it from there...This is a relatively easy thing to try, but it probably won't work unfortunately--but it's worth a shot.
See this thread if this doesn't work:

Did you try toggling the hold button before resetting with menu/play ?
# 20 Re: iPod Software 2.0.1: Problem Reports
anyone else having problems with firmware 2.0.1. ? i know most of you can't get it installed but what about once it is? I installed it a while ago and its not working right. The track change buttons aren't responsive if you track change too fast and sometimes the menu button doesn't work. Does anyone know if there is a way to go back to the original firmware?? Ive restored and this didn't seem to put it back to normal.
# 21 Re: iPod Software 2.0.1: Problem Reports
What is the 2.01 updater suppossed to add for functionality? Is it suppossed to add all the things that are listed on the apple website?
# 22 Re: iPod Software 2.0.1: Problem Reports
I find that my pause/play button is unresponsive at times - about 3 or 4 times in an 8 hour work/listening day - I have to touch another button or the scroll wheel to reactivate pause/play.
I find if I cue up a song, and hit pause right away (I want to get a song ready to listen to in bed, without fiddling around with the menus once I'm actually in bed) the screen shows the pause symbol, but the song continues playing and the countdown continues to change.
If I have the ipod in my pocket without having it on hold, it makes a high pitched chirp at times (I suspect when multiple buttons are getting hit at the same time). I don't know if this is really a bug.
Just some things I've found. I can live with the pause problem, but the unresponsive play/pause button is very annoying.
