Super tagging probs...
Hi,
I'm currently trying out MC9 and I have to say that the integration w/ iPod (compared w/ MMJB) is much better. Like the interface better but have to express two MAJOR disappointments:
1. The tagging feature. Although a bit more cumbersome to use than MMJB it's ok. But, what happened to my album cover art pictures???!!!!! Only some of them appear in MC9! What is the problem? Is the tag corrupt or something? Mind you, I have used MMJB to tag ALL my mp3s.
I have also been experimenting with a pure tagging problem but haven't found one to even match Musicmatch (no pun...) Does anyone have a suggestion for a GOOD app?
2. The 'Media Library' functions. Although the interface is much nicer and easier in MC9 I have to say the media update function is redicilous... In MMJB it automatically updates everything, but (since I am using sub-folders in 'My Music' library such as 'Rock&Pop', '1980s') when changing a subfolder's name (from 1980s to Eighties) MC9 cannot find the songs, even after I have so called 'updated' the library. When I click on a files it tells me to point the file to the right directory... As it is now, I have to manually delete all files from the library and then 're-add' media, which takes forever. Am I doing something wrong, and is there a way to get around this?
I'm not conviced yet this is the app for me, but hopefully someone will be able to help me with this - then it's a no-brainer...
Tx in advance!

I'm not sure exactly what happened to your album cover art pictures. Where does MMJB store them? It's possible they are located there and you can just move them and reassociate them w/MC9. It has a default folder where it stores all that.
Now, as far as the folders you're creating. I might make a suggestion. Let MC9 handle the folder creation for you, don't try and do it externally and expect MC9 to find it again.
For example, I have all my tunes in E:\My Music. In there I have Artist folders. In each Artist folder is a folder for each of their albums, then the tunes.
This is know in MC9 as a directory rule. The directory rule I like is "artist/album". The file naming convention I use is "Artist - Album - Track# - Track Name.mp3. You might use the same.
So, to get MC9 to organize everything for you, tag all your songs they way you want them in MC9. Make sure everything's cool. Then, right click your songs (you can do a bunch at a time) and select Library Tools>Rename Files from Properties.
What it will do is give you a dialog box like this (http://www.home.earthlink.net/~ashawley01/images/2.gif). Make sure the Base directory is set to where you store your tunes, and select the Directory Rule and File Naming rule you like.
MC9 will rename the files and essentially move them to these new directories. If this process leaves any empty directories on your PC it will even ask you if you want those emtpy folders deleted.
So, what I always do after I download tunes (legally btw), is first import them into MC9, fix the tags the way I want them, then do the rename to get them added correctly to my directory structure.
Sorry, this is so long, but hope it helps.

I actually think it is. Not sure though. I don't do it because I'd rather have as much space as possible on my iPod.
Check the MC9 help file on tagging. I'm sure there's something in there about it.
