MMJB Deleting Songs?

Hi,
I just got my 3G 15GB this Monday. Unfortunately the computer I'm running it on does not have a net connection for a couple more weeks, so I can't download EphPod or update software, etc.

Before transferring songs to my iPod I added my music collection to MMJB's library (I was using WMP/Winamp before). I went through a lot of my songs with nonexistent tags (artist = "Miscellaneous" in MMJB's library) to tag them for the iPod. For some reason, a lot (perhaps all?) of the songs I re-tagged were not actually re-tagged, but straight up deleted from my HD. They were not even put into my recycle bin but erased. Thank God I had Norton's Recycle Bin Utility to unerase them.

I tried checking the tags again, this time with Winamp, and ran into a similar problem. When checking to make sure every song had an ID3v2 tag, I found a lot without them and fixed this. But once again the files were deleted from my HD. This time I can't find them and I'm very sad, as I lost a lot of good songs. I don't understand what's going on; I've used Winamp to re-tag songs many times and it's never done anything this weird. Any suggestions?

colonelbobo, do you have a burner.

If so, I strongly suggest that you back up all your songs you ripped into CD-Rs. That way if your HD erases all your songs you don't have to do it again except for copying them from the CD-Rs.

You say you won't have a internet connection for a few weeks. All I can say that the super tag fuction on MMJB enters all the info for you automatically.

If I were you I would rip all my songs again by entering the artist and album only (forget manually entering all the song titles). Sync with the ipod. After obtaining an internet coonection, I would super tag all the songs (MMJB+ automatically searches for the song titles to the artist's album and if it matches it enter the info automatically). Sync the entire library of MMJB with the ipod again (you MIGHT have to hard reset the ipod before doing so).

Don't have much experience with ipods (I just got my 15gb today and was able to set up my ipod flawlessly with MMJB.) so hopefully you are able to find a solution.

Good luck and hope everything pans out OK.

My that is a strange problem, i do find it hard that MMJB has deleted the songs from your hard-drive. The only way that i've been able to do this with MMJB is through the delete key with the selction of "Remove this file from my hard-drive".

I've just come back to MMJB v7.5 with my new iPod because with the Gen2 V1.0 iPod the sync was very very bad.

With the v2.0 iPod is seems 150% better.

Bump.

Did I do something wrong by leaving MMJB w/iPod plug-in on my computer, instead of uninstalling it?

Also, thanks for the suggestion about burning. I can't burn effectively because my music collection changes (I get new stuff, I put it into old directories) but I'll start saving my playlist more often, as a record of what I've got.
