Tagging & YADB

Hi All,

I'm a total newbie comming from MM to MC9 and i need help... please!!
I'm having a few prob's with the tagging function in MC9. For now I've only tried it on downloaded files.
Basically, from what i understand, all I need to do, is to select a song, open the library tools and select "look up Tag info from YADB".
That i do. I get a screen basically asking to proceed and after a few sec's i get the following message: "file information was retrived for 0 of 1 files". (that sounds already strange!)
Unfortunately when I check the file properties window on the left side of MC9, i see nothing has changed.
Am I missing some really basic step and making a fool of myself? :D Or is somthing not working?
Can someone please help me understand.
Thanks...
Andrea:confused:

Perhaps there is no ID3 tag information for those particular songs in the database yet.

Well, my understanding is that yadb is a CD database--I don't think it's going to work for something you've downloaded--I don't see how YADB would be able to recognize it (with perhaps the possible exception of a .wav file, but I haven't tried this). Correct me if I'm wrong anyone...

this could be an explanation, i've just moved house and haven't taken out the cd collection from the boxes... ####... off i go...

All of the songs i tried are real classics... Stevie Wonder, Guns N' Roses, Black Crowes,.,,

if dmt1 is right, it's definetly a major plus for MM's Super Tagging function...

No, YADB can search by CD info and by file name and tag info.

So, w/downloaded songs that aren't tagged it should be able to find some information. Of course, if the song isn't tagged and is named something weird (like "Track01.mp3") there's no way it's going to get a hit.

Remember one thing: YADB is newer than MMJB's DB. So, if you have songs tagged well, submit them to help others out. Do this by right clicking your songs (select a bunch), and selecting Library Tools>Submit Track Info to YADB.

Adam,

Thanks for the clarification.
Now I'm starting to get this clear in my mind, I guess the songs i mentioned previously didn't have any previous tags... however, they did have clear files names with song and artist... so I guess that songs before being tagged through YADB should have some sort of previous tag. Right?
I did try ripping a few cd and the tagging system worked like a charm:D
Thanks for the help,

Andrea

i found out a cool thing about the tagging, i popped in a cd with various songs from RATM, but they didnt have a file name nor a tag when i checked it....so then i clicked on each song and it updated the tags individually.....it was a pretty cool discovery...
