Invalid Pointer Operation
greetings people,
i recently bought the new 15gb iPOD and am using ephpod 2.60f. Ive configured the program to sync with certain folders in my music collection. A little while ago, i removed some of the music from these folders and now, when i try to sync folders, i get an "Invalid Pointer Operation" error and then ephpod crashes. Any idea what is goin on? Thanks ahead.

I get this all the time when trying to synchronise to a folder full of playlist SHORTCUTS. Sometimes it works fine - other times it just dies. It seems to be when you want to delete a few playlists and add a few different ones, it just can't cope.
I get the invalid pointer operation- I also get untold numbers of errors in 'ntdll.dll' Its a real PITA - I thought I had fixed it because I had a few options set wrong in MediaFour mac drive to do with file extensions, but it has reared its ugly head again.
I use Xplay - purely to upgrade to mac firmware (since Ephpod doesn't seem to be able to do this). I can't use windows firmware, as I sometimes connect the unit to Mac OS X machines, and Itunes totally screws winniepod databases.
I DO know that this problem didn't seem to happen before Xplay was installed - it may be that. Do you have it installed? What firmware / software are you using. I hate Xplay - its very intrusive.
It won't let you delete the Ipod_Control directory or anything.
But like I say - my only choice for software restore.
How often do you need to restore, if you regularly empty out all the music from your iPod and refill with new playlists/ songs?
if its not strictly necessary that often, I may uninstall crappy Xplay
and see if I can't get these dumb Ephpod problems to go away.
BTW the errors happen with 2.58, 2.6 and 2.70a

I have never installed Xplay, which is why i have a feeling that this problem has to do specifically eith Ephpod. I also use the ipod solely with windowsxp pro.
i am using 2.0.1 firmware/software and Ephpod 2.70a. Ive had the same pointer error come up (never the ntdll.dll error tho) a few times since i posted on the forum and each time its because i have removed some album folders from one of my music directories and replaced with others (no shortcuts).
in terms of my restoring, it doesnt involve mass deletions and replacements. The ipod has about 12 gigs on it and the most thatll be added or substracted during a sync will be ~600mb. I have a feeling that, like you said, ephpod just cant cope with removing old and adding new folder names.
One time tho, i noticed that it happened when one of the song tracks had an odd character in it (the mu sign). I changed it and it then synced fine....but it could be completely unrelated.
thanks for the response.
