Procedure for new iPod/MC9 installation.

I want to make sure I don't install any unnecessary software off the original iPod CD when I first set up my iPod. I'm not 100% clear on exactly what this would entail -- i.e. it seems that I will need the "updater" app from the CD, but is this all I'll need? If so, can I just browse to the a certain folder and install it seperately? I read some reports on this on various forums, but I can't see to find this information now.

What's the procedure/order of events for getting everything set up for the very first time -- i.e. the iPod is new and has never been connected to the computer, nor has any iPod related software ever been installed.

Thanks,

Larry

Check out Kurt's reasonably excellent post from today about this very thing in the Jriver forum (Plus you'll get to see his Avatar do the Macerana):

Ok, Ok I promise, no more cross posting between the forums for me anymore today...It's getting too confusing...

Aye, over on the MC9 forums, I'm still shakin my cute little patootey. Dance, boatman, dance!!

I think it's cool to cross-link between the two forums. Heck, I'm seeing users on the MC9 forums that I've never even seen or heard of before mention us here at iPodlounge. One would think that we're regarded as an authority on the subject or something. :D :D

iPodlounge representin' once again! Booya!

Thanks -- that's basically the information I was looking for. The only difference is that some people say to "install" the updater software, while others say to just copy in to your drive and use it. I assume that the "install" simply adds a shortcut and program group.

There is no install for the updater. It's a standalone application that you just run. So just copy it to your PC and run it. There's now way to install it (i.e. adding program groups and Start menu shortcuts w/o installing all the other garbage. So just stick somewhere you'll remember it and use it when needed.
