ID Tag Help
Hello all. I am new to the boards and was hoping someone could help me...
Ok, so I bought an iPod and basically it reads the ID Tags for information such as title of the song, album, artist, etc as we all know. I have a program called Dr. Tag, which by the way is great. Its basically a program that helps manage all your mp3 tags. For some reason, I name an album what its supposed to be named but yet its coming up differently. This is only with some mp3's. For example I have an album by Theivery Corporation that is called "Abductions and Reconstructions" Now according to the ID Tag 1 that is the name. I deleted all ID Tag 2's in there so there would be no conflicts. NOWHERE does it say anything different for the album name however when I view it on my iPod it says "Abductions and Reconstructions 1999" Does ANYONE know where I might be overlooking some info? Does anyone else have this problem? Its almost like its hardcoded into the mp3... REALLY strange. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I'm not familiar with the proggie you're using, but it sounds to me like that's the name that's coming up in the database it accesses.
Are you using Windows or a Mac?
# 2 Re: ID Tag Help
That's a Windows program - can a mod move to the Windows Software section?
My only suggestion would be to use v2 tags instead of v1s. But I'm not using Dr. Tag, I'm using ID3Tag-It, so I'm not familiar with the program.

I am using Windows XP. The program is pretty straight forward. Its pretty much like any other tag program. Even when I view the tag in Winamp, it shows the album name as it should be however the iPod sees it differently... Its pretty strange. Is it possible for something to be hardcoded into the mp3 when its ripped? Do the v2 tags over write the v1?

I recommend that you view the tags for these files in whatever program you use to transfer music to your ipod. I had similar problems because of inconsistencies between ID31 and 2. I opened all of my music in Musicmatch and used supertagging (which is pretty good) to correct the tags and this pretty much fixed all of the problems. If you use another program like Ephpod, edit your tags here. If it appears right in the program you use with the iPod, then it will appear right on the iPod. Hope this helps

I always check my id3 tags cos more often than not I get wrong album information cos someone has not gotten it right to begin with...

That's just my problem. I use Dr. Tag to edit the files and everything says "Abductions and Reconstructions" but when it shows in iPod it has "Abductions and Reconstructions 1999" I have made sure all ID3v2 tags were GONE! The only thing in them is the ID3v1. It looks as if no one else is getting this error. If I post a download for an mp3, will others confirm that I am not losing my mind and take a look at this in their tag editing program? I am curious to know if it comes up on someone else machine... Any takers?

Hey all,
Just bought my mini a couple weeks ago :-). I was wondering, is there any way iTunes can delete the ID tags for all your mp3s? I have a specific way of naming my songs, but the iPod always displays them according to the tags. Thanks,

How are you transfering your music to your iPod?
Load up iTunes and import those tracks. The tag values that iTunes displays (and edits) will be the same ones that the iPod uses. So, if the title is showing up incorrectly on your iPod, it should appear incorrect in iTunes as well.
Modify the tag in iTunes and your file should be good to go for the iPod.
I don't really use third-party tagging software, but I have tried Tag&Rename in the past. It will allow you to completely wipe out v1 and/or v2 tags, batch copy from one tag to another, etc. Might want to check look into a trial version and see if these mysterious tag values show up somewhere.

I downloaded this program that wipes out all ID tag info from your mp3s. I used it, it worked, and all my ID tag info is gone. But, when I open iTunes, it still displays tag info...what I want to do is delete all the tag info so the song titles are displayed on the LCD exactly as I've named the mp3 files on my HD.
I can't believe iTunes doesn't have an option where you can select all your files and remove the ID tags. Does anyone know how I can do this?
