Problem: Clicking noise then reverts to main menu

Not sure if anyone else has had this problem but here goes: When I start to play some of my albums on my 30 GB IPOD there is a clicking noise as it progresses through each track on the album and then it reverts me back to the starting menu screen. Any help?

Sounds like the mp3's are dodgey - it comes back to the bug with the iPod in that if it doesn't like a track it clicks and progresses to the next track.

Annoying to say the least.

I had that with a couple of my albums - they were ripped ages ago, so I re-reipped now using current methods, and they work perfectly.

Hope that helps?

Started happening recently. I'm pretty sure it's a hardward failure in the hard drive. (This clicking noise is from the HD mechanism itself, not the sound produced through the line out of the iPod.)

I've reformatted my iPod a couple times. Disk Utility says it's fine (looking at the various structure elements) but whenever I try to write beyond about the 200MB barrier, it starts clicking and locks up whatever was accessing it.

I wish I could find some utility that would scan the drive, mark bad sectors, and then it would somehoe ignore them.

There is a disk utility on the iPod itself. It just checks the drive AFAIK, not sure if it repairs it.

Do a reset, at the Apple logo, press the FF, REW, Menu and Center buttons until the Disk Check starts. Give it a while. At the end you'll get either a disk icon w/a checkmark (good) or a sad iPod icon (you can guess what that means).
