Files corrupted on iPod.
Very strange, this.
Somehow my MP3s are getting "truncated" as they arrive on the iPod -- ephPod slows down on the offending files during the transfer (the progress bar just -sits- there for a few seconds, then picks up). The result is a file that ends around 1 min - 30 seconds before it's supposed to, and then the next track starts.
AND, the final number of MBs copied at the bottom of the screen is always LOWER than the supposed total number of MBs at the end of the copy. So maybe I was supposed to transfer 1700MB, but at the end only 1500MB had gotten transferred.
I've tried using the Windows API Copy routines, changing the Internal copying buffer size to a smaller number -- NOTHING WORKS. Basically the files are getting corrupted as they go to the iPod. The firewire card I'm using uses a standard VIA chip.
Anyone think that it's a FireWire or iPod problem? I've had no problem with the myriad of DV capture/editing I've done. I'm worried that the iPod HDD is corrupt (Windows found a few bad blocks on it and fixed it up).
Please help, as I'm going absolutely lunatic bonkers -- I want to hear my music in its completeness :(

First off, do a restore to make sure everything's OK on the iPod.
Then try downloading the offending songs again. Is it always the same songs? If that's the case then it's probably the songs themselves and you should try re-ripping them.
If it's random, then most likely it's you're firewire card. The iPod is very picky about cards.

The only time ive seen the word "truncated" used was when i had my ipod in the dock when my computer booted up and the defrager went to work on it and left a log file saying that file sizes were incorect so it had to truncate the files.
Prehaps you should check so see if you have any hard disk managment programs running at the time of file transfer, i know some ppl run their defragers all the time.
But if that doesnt work then id agree that it sounds very much like a firewire problem :(

OK, I simply don't get it at this point :(
I wiped the iPod clean, changed the FireWire port, then threw a batch of music back on. Same thing happened -- transfer speed sunk to .7MB/sec with multiple pauses on certain files -- which are fine on the PC side, btw -- and they're 'broken' on the iPod side (end early, make it crash, et al).
Is this REALLY a FireWire problem!? I was under the impression that FireWire is a simple protocol where either it works or it doesn't. Why is the iPod "picky"?

Hi,
This is my first post, and i only recieved delivery of my iPod yesterday.. so i am a complete novice with my own problems i'm trying to get sorted out.
But...
I think i may have ahd your problem, and got around it. As i said, im a complete ephpod novice, so sorry if this appears stupid or really isnt a solution.
When i transfered files, all the tracks began about 30 seconds later than they should, and had about 30 seconds of the next track on the end of it. they also transfered much slower than i thought they should be doing.
On the 'configure ephod' button along the top bar, there is an option to use (and i forget the exact namimg of them as im at work) two different transfer methods... they appear in the form of radio buttons and one is 'Windows API (possibly)' and one is a standard option which is selected as default. When i changed thes, the tansfer speeds increased ten-fold, and the songs all transfered in the correct way, playing from start to finish.
I hope this helps!
The trouble i'm now having is that although my entire music collection is now on my iPod, the stupid thing just skips through some of the tracks even though they are there with a faint 'popping' noicse in the background. :(
I haven't looked through the rest of the forum yet, so if this is a common problem with a common solution, sorry.. i know how annoying it can be to keep reading the same things over again, but if anyone has a quick fix...
:) I would be most pleased :)
Cheers,
Xylus.
