Best syncing software?
Hi, I'm a proud new owner of an old iPod (5G, firmware 1.2, Windows). I'm having fun with it, and am very glad I made it my first-ever portable player.
I'm using MusicMatch Jukebox 7.1, the default syncing program. I'm not too crazy about it--hate the interface, the feel of it.
Which of the programs out there do you recommend? EphPod seems to come up again and again as the most popular choice, but I'd like to get a variety of inputs on this. I realize I'll get several different responses to this, which is great. The more the merrier.
As a qualifier, I'm fairly comfortable using any program, but user-friendliness is always a plus. Speed of transfer is also a consideration, but not a huge one.

Welcome to the 'lounge oldskool. You might want to check out the Software Compendium (http://ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2286) for a breakdown of what's available.
As far as recommendations, I've used them all and much prefer Media Center 9 (MC9). It's an all-in-one app like MMJB, but much faster and has features that you will not find in ephpod.
It's also the fastest in my tests....
Xplay and Ephpod are fine programs and do their jobs well, so you'll get a lot of input here. But since they all have free trials or are free (ephpod), try them all out and see what you like best.

Hmmm... I'll testdrive that one too.
I'm wondering: Just about all of these are faster with transfers than Jukebox. Do they perform the volume "leveling" that Jukebox does? I originally planned to accomplish this leveling while transfering files to the iPod. Big mistake--the process, which basically creates a resampled file before transferring it, takes a full minute for an average file (4mb), which would translate to around 12 hours to transfer all my music!
I realize that the better way to do this would be to resample the files before starting the transfer to the iPod. Still, I'm wondering if any of these other programs can do this quicker, mainly for on-the-fly additions (only a handful of songs at a time).

If you do not mind to use free software, then you can try a beta of MediaChest ( http://mediachest.sourceforge.com). You need to have Java VM installed to be able to use this software. Java VM is free and available from http://java.sun.com

What about Sveta, it is the only program that accepts MP4 and Tagging.
It's a great bit of software and support is amazong

I tried sveta three or four times and could never encode in anything but normal, and it screwed up my CJK tags, so in my it's still a beta program and not a great piece of software, yet.
