I think that EphPod allows you to modify ID3v2 tags but I'm not totally sure. I'll let somebody else confirm that. :D

ephpod does not allow you to tag your files. It lets you "tag" the songs on the iPod, but it's not really tagging them--it's just making changes to the ipod's database.

If you don't want to switch to an all-in-one program for uploading and tagging (like MC9, which I recommend), then just get a simple tag editing program like id3-tagit. It's free from www.id3-tagit.de. Click on the british flag for the english version...works great for tagging.

I just purchased eMusic Tag Editor v2.31 and it's awesome. You can get a trial (15 days) at http://www.abyssaudio.com/

It tags either one mp3 file at a time or an entire playlist all at once. I totally recommend it as it's made life so much easier for me.

Musicmatch comes with your iPod and though everyone here flames it every 2 seconds I think it does the job if your just looking for a tagging utility. It allows mass tagging by hand, or super tagging, which allows tagging from filename, from an online database(which is quite complete) renaming files etc..
I use it to manage my music library, and I use Ephpod to synch, and I amquite happy with it.
Just my 2 eurocents...

MusicMatch is a piece of junk (in my humble opinion). It refuses to function with my new 15 Gb iPod, even though I had no problems at all using it for my old 10 Gb iPod, I still hated the interface as it seemed clumsy and cumbersome. I have tried several methods to get MMJB 7.5 to function with my new iPod, but all in vein. As a subquence, I feel that the sooner Apple get the rumored iTunes for Windows out, the better.

I've been usin Ephpod 2.60f to update my iPod and it's been remarkably efficient. I've been using a version of Ephpod for a year now and it's perfection for updating the iPod with music, news and weather reports, but it really isn't a tagger and that's where i discovered eMusic Tag Editor to be a bonus.

As for ripping CD's, there's nothing better, in my opinion than Easy CD-CA Extractor, which uses LAME and is highly configurable for personal preferences and it's fast.

For managing contacts and appointments from Outlook, there's not much around easier than iAppoint, which is free. It's a little weird at first to get it working right, but once you work it out (help is minimal) it performs perfectly and only uses a single file for all your appointments and does away with single vCard entries for each contact or appointment. If you don't have Outlook, then Ephpod will do the same job quite nicely, but uses a separate entry for each contact or calendar appointment.

We could go on for weeks about the pros and cons of iPod third party software, but what it all boils down to is individual preference. Whatever works for YOU - is best.

Do your filenames have the artist and song title in them? Many tag editors can grab the tag information from the filename. I use ID3Tagit, and it definitely will do this, so you may not have to re-rip after all, provided your filenames have enough info in them.

well from what im seeing, "the godfather" program added the track number to the front of each song.....so all the other tagging programs do not recognize them like they should....for example...when i got to find the album info through WMP it will only recognize the artist and not the song, so it seems that either i have to rename all the songs one by one (remove the track number from the front of the song name) or re-rip everything, and through re-ripping all the files will be organized according to the artist/album/song....so im not sure what to do at this point....
