issue after sync?
I just got my 10gb Gen2 ipod from Apple yesterday. After having some firewire issues with my main computer, I was able to get everything working fine on my 2nd computer (print server/webserver/gameserver). I am using EPHpod 2.60F and am transfering my MP3's from a shared drive across my LAN.
Yesterday after battling with the firewire and finally getting everything to mesh on the second comp I just wanted to get some music on there to use my new toy. So I plugged it all in and booted ephpod and installed my DIR structure and added two directories full of mp3's. I had about 3 gigs on there and listened to them all night last night with no troubles at all.
I came back to my place today and wanted to play around with the sync options in ephpod. I deleted some folders out of the two root MP3 folders and then set those folders up to sync to the ipod. I hit the sync button it looked like it was working. (scanned, picked up the changes and added some stuff) and then said it was done. I clicked to exit ephpod. it said "save changes to ipod" and i said. yes.
unmounted and went to check out my changes, to my suprise i found there was nothing on the ipod. no artists, no songs, no nothing. I went into status and it showed about 3 gigs used on the ipod but 0 songs.
I thought it was some freak deal so I went and restored using apple's app. I then went in and deleted the control DIR as it was still on the ipod. I went into ephpod and it dectected it as a new ipod. I then clicked sync again and it transfered all 3 gigs back onto the ipod. Once again shows 3 gigs on the ipod, but 0 songs.
i'm sure its user error, can anyone see anything i'm doing wrong?

# 1 Re: issue after sync?
after completely restoring the Ipod and making it appear factory and useing Xplay i STILL can not get it to have the tracks appear.
I am really lost here. I suppose I will try MMJB I guess...
Searching the site does not give me too much either.
any help would be great.
thank you

Hey Scott, welcome to the 'lounge.
Something is weird here as this isn't typical behaviour. I'm curious, what type of firewire card do you have?
It's really not a good idea to install and of the Apple software nor is it good to install MMJB.
If you have any of the Apple software installed, uninstall it and then try...it just causes problems....
Post back your results..

thanks for the reply Adam.
Right now I am using a cheap VIA based firewire card I bought off of ebay. I did not know that there were better or worse firewire cards until I started having issues with mine and did some research and trouble shooting. So I went out to Best Buy and got the only non-VIA based chipset card they had. It is a Belkin 3-port, (F5U503). I will swap out the VIA one with the Belkin one and give it a shot. I am also going to move the MP3 files to the servers hard drive to cut out another possible cause. I guess i'm overly skeptical (sp) because this is one of Apples refurbished units. I will post my results in a bit.
any more input or suggestions will be tried, and remember i'm a newbie to the ipod world so even if its a really obvious suggestion please speak up.

# 4 Re: issue after sync?
nope...nothing.
I am at a complete loss now. I have tried the belkin card, and moving the MP3s to actual HDD from the computer i'm sending from and still I get the same results. I am running version 1.2.6. if that matters at all.
so did exactly what I did when I first hooked it up and i'm getting nothing back from it. shows the space as taken up under the "about". Also when I connect in ephpod it shows the two CD's that I moved to the ipod as being on the system. it reads the tags fine and displays all of the correct info, not corrupted or anything.
so...how is apples tech support?

# 5 Re: issue after sync?
one thought. since you are on a gen 2 ipod, you need to have version 2.0 of the ipod updater. nothing prior to this version works on a gen 2 ipod. i would recommend leading ver 2.0 from the ipod CD, and seeing if this solves your problem.
# 6 Re: issue after sync?
no, no...2gen iPods do not accept the iPod firmware 2.0.
There are 3 generations of iPods out. The current ones that just came out are the 3gen ones. They take 2.0 firmware.
Any earlier iPods should be loaded with 1.2.6 firmware.
Not sure if you're confused on the version you have. 3gen iPod have the buttons in a line just below the screen.

no go.
I just reinstalled ephpod, did not work. I was thinking maybe I messed with some sync settings in ephpod. I think i'm going to open up an issue with Apple.
I will play with it between now and then though. maybe try it on a whole new system, fresh install of everything...
