MC 9.1 beta available soon.

Here's a link (http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=MediaCenter;action=display;num=1054 926807) to the current thread on it.

This new version uses a different database format than 9.0, and thus may be problematic with your iPod. Experts only -- do not use this beta if you want solid, reliable interface with your iPod. Please continue to use 9.0.x if you don't want any bumps in the road.

I am making this post sticky during beta testing. If you have upgraded to 9.1 and are using it with your iPod, please leave your testimonials, comments, concerns, and problems here.

As a reminder, please remember to back up your existing library before you install 9.1.x. Cheers, and good luck!

*sigh*...It crashed my office computer, which I think was a firewall issue more than anything else--I can't even delete it off my HD...

Please post how it's working for you--I'll try it at home if it's working reasonably ok for you guys...

I am intrigued by what the "new look" is going to look like..

Steve has mentioned in the current iPod support thread that the new beta will have a "send to iPod" button on the toolbar (good for manually managing music, bad for synching) and an "auto sync" feature, which will detect when you plug in and take you to the sync dialogue (woot!).

Can't wait to try it all out!

Yup, there is indeed an iPod icon at the bottom where the toolbars are....check it out:

.

It's also very slick looking. The UI is much prettier. :D :D

Haven't had any problems, but I haven't tried it with my iPod yet.

On a side note: I just experienced the track swapping on my new iPod..that's a pretty nifty little bug. ;)

I really like the new 9.1 layout/graphics, but I wasn't expecting them to change from 9.0. Could this be why, sure looks like the model?

(Course, I know full well that nobody listens to me, so it could be an empty thread once you get there, )

Hey Kurt, what did you mean by this when you posted over at J. River? We do listen to you and just for that I posted this thread and I am going to venture into the land of 9.1.:D

Midpack: You are right it does look alot like iTunes.

# 7 Re: MC 9.1 beta available soon.
I downloaded and synched tonight--9.1 is sweet--graphics are nicer, I like the layout better--and it's still only in early beta...

And I synched with no problems whatsoever--bye bye 9.0, hello 9.1--now if only I can get my office computer to work with it. Word of caution--make sure you have the PixOs skin enabled in your MC 9.0 before downloading MC 9.1--in another one of my enlightened moments, I missed that step on my office computer (had the Tekkno skin going at the time I downloaded), and I think that may be the problem I'm having with it there--got the fix from the MC9 site, and I'll try fixing it tomorrow.

The PixOs skin in 9.1 is VERY nice--my new favorite mega-me skin.

I honestly don't have any bugs with it yet, but I need to work with it more. It does synch great though!!

Yeah, Kurt. We do listen. Wait..Timmy, what was he talking about?

OK, well, my report is that everything worked flawlessly. Even Media Server. Kurt when are you going to get internet back at home!!! Chris is just too geographically challenging for me right now (time zone and all) ;)

What neat stuff this new version is...

I think he was talking about us.:( He posted at J River and made a link to this thread. I guess he doesn't like us.:( :(

It is on this page. (http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=MediaCenter;action=display;num=1054 926807)

Edit: Ok for some reason I cannot link to that page. Why can't I link there? Why am I getting an error message? I have no idea why, but it's under MC9>9.1 Later Today.

Anyone tried to sync from 9.1 to a Gen3 yet? I'm a novice, so I'm hoping one of the experts (meant sincerely) here will try it before I get myself all hosed up.

# 11 Re: MC 9.1 beta available soon.
We'll have to wait until Kurt or Adam tries with a gen 3, but I can tell you that it synchs with a gen 2 flawlessly...

And Timmy, I saw Kurt's post too, and he had a big smiley on it--I think (at least I hope) he was kidding; his and Adam's posts are the one's I always look for first...

Yeah I think he was kidding too. Well now you can check for my posts over there, cause I just joined those forums yesterday. :D

Kurt knows we all love him...he's just having fun. But since he's off for the weekend (no internet at home) we can talk about him w/o having to worry about him responding. How's that for fun. :D

MidPack: I've got a Gen3, worked flawlessly. Even though I mostly sync, the new Upload iPod icon at the bottom works really cool. Just highlight the songs you want copied, and click the icon. Fast and very slick...

# 14 Re: MC 9.1 beta available soon.
Just noticed that all my smartlists based on 'Year' are toast. Looked at all my songs, and 'Year' wasn't shown. Edited columns showing, and 'Year' is no longer a choice, but 'Date (Year)' and several other Date columns are offered now. Enabled 'Date (Year)' and my 'Year' tags all appeared (whew!). However, when I went to create new smartlist, neither 'Year' nor any 'Date (x)' functions are offered as rules. I must be missing something so I'll keep poking around, unless one of you knows what I'm missing.

# 15 Re: MC 9.1 beta available soon.
You know that way cool ipod icon on the toolbar (Probably Kurt's that MC9 acquired?) that Kurt mentioned? After reading Kurt's message, I thought it would be kinda cool too if you could click on that icon (or another icon, if they want to maintain the current function on the ipod icon) on the tool bar to go to the synch page--they're looking into it over at Jriver; if you would like to see this, maybe a gentle request on the message board over at Jriver would help...

Thanks for posting that Chris...

Definitly let Steve on the iPod Support thread know that we want it. He'll build it if he gets enough customer demand....

I have hat no problems with the 9.1. It looks pretty cool, kindda like iTunes, as somebody els also posted :)

I love the way the ipod plugin work now, where it only show ie 92 new songs uploaded, instead of 1181 total.

Well, I was just tryin ta stay humble, ya see. I could have been up front and said like, "I know that I'm the most important piece of y'all's iPod experience," but that's not very Taoist of me, now is it? ;)

I'm having weird problems with 9.1, but I think it's because something has snuck into one of my smartlists. Didn't have a lot of free time this weekend, so I'm going to go over it with a fine tooth comb tonight and see what's up.

I would LOVE a button on the toolbar to bring up the sync dialogue. Add my enthusiastic vote. A button would be one step closer to a command line switch. ;)

Happy Monday morning, folks... cc's in the hizzle! Fo shizzle!

Hey all,
Just downloaded 9.1 and no problems so far. Really like the new interface. Very smooth. I will post any problems encountered.:D

Because with them it causes the bandwidth to be very high, so in order to cut it down, they had to turn them off. And when the bandwidth goes over it costs more to run the forums.

Man, That is the truth, it truly does look like iTunes. I really like this new version. I am having one small problem though. When i startr it it comes up and says my trial period is over, even though I have purchased MC9. I just hit ok and it continues to load and works fine. I checked and it has my serial number. Anyone have a similar issue or heards of this?

No, I haven't had that problem. Post over at the JRiver Forums ( http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=MediaCenter). They'll set you straight right quick.

Worked perfectly for me too. I assume it's important that you have the latest build and latest iPod plug-in too, as you probably know. Hope it goes well for you, we're all apprehensive the first time.

# 30 Re: MC 9.1 beta available soon.
I've just seen a couple flaky bugs in the media library browsing area... other than that, it's 100% all systems go with the new beta.

And it's BYOOTEEFUL too.

# 31 Re: MC 9.1 beta available soon.
I also noticed a bug last night in the library part. I had an artist's name with a hypen in it and it couldn't link it to the album. I had to retag the album and problem was solved.

And this was easy, all thanks to MC9's easy tagging capabilities (as he holds up the MC9 software smiling at the camera)!

# 32 Re: MC 9.1 beta available soon.
Is the new ver. easier to use? I've gotten used to using MC9 now, but some of the options could be more intuitive.
Offline69 at 2007-11-15 17:54:13 >
# 33 Re: MC 9.1 beta available soon.
I think it's easier to use. There are a number of new views, there are new ways to tag, but don't worry, the old ways are there as well.

I just think it's much better to navigate. Supposedly the database engine was revamped as well, so it's faster. Seems like it to me.

I'm sorry. I've been looking all over for the 9.1 Beta and I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Has it been made unavailable recently?

If you go here, ( http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=MediaCenter) you'll find it. They don't post it on the regular site since it's in beta.

# 36 Re: MC 9.1 beta available soon.
Would you recommend this Beta to a relative newbie?

I'm only owned my iPod for a month, got hoodwinked into ripping everything on MMJB under the MP3 Pro setting, subsequently found out iPod doesn't support MP3 Pro, and am now prepared to purchase a MC product of some sort.

(And this Beta versions *DOES* include the ripper that everyone says is better than MMJB -- correct?)

Also, does MC have plans to issue an AAC version anytime soon? I'm wondering if I should wait for Apple to release Windows iTunes. Your advice?
Piranhahaha at 2007-11-15 17:58:14 >
# 37 Re: MC 9.1 beta available soon.
Yes, I'd STRONGLY recommend the 226 build to a newbie--it's simply outstanding, and very stable--close to the final product.

You can get the 226 build here, for a free 30 day trial:

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter91226.exe

Jriver is in the process of introducing big time changes in the current build (Which is as of today 229). But the 226 build is absolutely stellar, and I haven't had a problem with it.

If you don't want to use the beta version, you can download 9.0.180, which is the standard version on the Jriver media center download page, but the 9.1.226 is IMHO, the better application.

# 38 Re: MC 9.1 beta available soon.
Thanks! Is there any date set for the release of the final product?

I'm completely clueless as to computer stuff; Betas get me nervous.

Also, has anyone compared MC9 to the Mac AAC recordings?
Piranhahaha at 2007-11-15 18:00:22 >
# 39 Re: MC 9.1 beta available soon.
No date set. But .230 is now very stable. You should be fine. JRiver tends to build their versions this way, it's an interactive development process whereby the users get to give their input during the process, the end result IMO being a better product for the users. :D
