MC9 crashes when IPOD connected
Hi all.
My IPOD had been working so great, I just haven't been obsessed with it for quite some time. My last update was .172 when I last updated MC9. That was the last time I synched my IPOD with MC9. In ther interim, I did a couple interim updates and I now currently am updated to .180. During those interim updates, I never re-synched the IPOD. It was a 10 GIG and pretty full most of my favorites were on there. I finally ripped some new CDs and attempted to synch to IPOD.
When IPOD was connected and I attempted to open DVD/Handhelds>right click on the IPOD ICON>crash. Actually, I had a little dialog box with a red "X" and an "OK" button.
Sorry, I have gotten stupid over the past month away from this board. It's not healthy for me here. I was reading posts about using the server capabilities of MC9 and freaked. It's summer...I have to step back from this computer.
Well, I'm back. I bit unhappy that the interim updates has made my IPOD & MC9 buggy together. But...I have been so happy with MC9 I know Chris, Kurt, or Adam with be able to help. I'm not limiting anyone else's participation here either. I'm sure in the interim, there are new MC9 genuises out there.

Well, hello Judith! Long time no post!
Simple deal. Just format your iPod. You can either use the Apple updater or just do a "Quick Format" in my Computer by right-clicking the iPod in My Computer and selecting format.
You'll lose all your tunes, but it'll work. Steve is working on getting rid of this little incosistency between builds.

Hey there Adam,
I knew one of you "IPOD forum saviors" would soon come to my rescue.
Whew. Thanks. I did an UPDATE and formatted for MC9. It's in the process of re-synching the 9.2 GIGs I of EAC/LAME alt-preset-standard mp3s (That's for Chris). Should take about 15 minutes or so.
Who would have ever thought that I would be running out of space on this 10 GiG IPOD. I sure never thought I would ever rip all those old CDs I hadn't listened to for such a long time. I admit I looked at the new IPODS in an APPLE store but "Harold" and I have such a strong kinship and deep understanding of each other. I just can't discard him so non-chalantly. I think I'm nutz. I've decided to simply be more selective in my MP3 choices and synch more often.
The last time I posted was on the old boards. I was out of the country for a few weeks a couple months ago..with "Harold" ever at my side. When I returned I discovered the new boards and that I had to re-register. I kept meaning to...but life with my IPOD (Harold) has been good and there was no need.
I did see the posts about how you all were using the Media Server aspect of MC9. Literally, I just couldn't cope. There are too many features in MC9 that I would love to learn to use but life is fleeting. I've been reading how to use it as a TIVO on the MC9 boards. My stomach is getting upset just thinking about setting-up that feature.
I won't be such a stranger. You guys have too much fun in here.
P.S. In the time it has taken me to write this...Harold is all better again; properly synched and ready to rumble.
thanks

Judith,
Stick with the old ipod--don't go over to the "dark side"!!!!!
In all honesty, I'm hoping my 20 giggr DOESN'T crash--if it does I'd get a new one as a free replacement, but the thing is, the way it is now, the battery life of the older versions is perfect for me--I can run it all day at the office, and then take it to the gym, and not have a problem with the battery running out...

Well, all I can say is the MC9 board is begining to feel like home again now that Judith is back. Now, where is that nekura??
:)

Ohmygosh...where is nekura? Hmmmm. I guess we all "go missing" every once in a while.
Chris - apparently there is a difference in the battery life of the old vs. new IPODs? I knew there was an issue regarding the ease of replacement but didn't realize there was a battery life issue...if that is what you are referring to?
I'm like a fickle flittering little bird meandering from one technology focus to the next. I went to the UK...saw Peter Gabriel first row Wembley arena. I was on vacation and also took a load of digital photos. Been trying to master Photoshop 7 and some of the digital effect filters and "actions." I've been hanging out on those boards bugging all those Photoshop experts...endlessly. I'm like a huge pest at times.
Now I've gotten into SACD and I'm replacing some of my CDs with their SACD versions. Awesome sound. A bit discombobulating though. Quality of the disc just depends on the producer and where he places the emphasis. Sometimes I feel like I'm surrounded by an entire orchestra. Still trying to make up my mind whether I like it. It's different.
I still love my IPOD and whatever goes wrong, I come back here...and you're all still here giving out great advice with patience and understanding. :D
I find what you are trying to do with MC9's media server feature pretty interesting. We ought to start our own node though. Chris knows what I mean.
I'll be around because now I'm trying to create some new smartlists since I lost the others. They disappeared from MC9 during one of the updates, I believe. I'm also stressing over the fact that MC9 has those "task smartlists" that keeps reminding me that some of my MP3s are not perfectly tagged. Can't have that!

talk to you soon.

Oh..I also see we are inserting our "location." Oshkosh? That's in Wisconsin? Kidding Chris. I'm orginally from Chicago and guess where young Chicagoans would go to drink...millions of years ago. You could drink at 18 in Milwaukee.
Napa...Love Napa. Used to drive up there once a year...near Santa Rose/Healdsburg area to vacation. We used to tour around on our bikes...visiting wineries. Could barely ride a straight line afterwards. I lived for 16 years down in the Southbay, L.A. Places like Venice, Hermosa, Redondo Beach. Now...I'm in DC. Life sucks here sometimes.

# 7 Re: MC9 crashes when IPOD connected
I'm originally from Champaign, and we still visit Chicago every chance we get--Oshkosh is a great place to live, but Chicago sure is nice to visit...
And about the battery life--one of the reasons the new ipod is smaller is the battery is smaller--the older ipods get 10-12 hours per charge, the new ones apparently 6-8--this is huge to me...
The media server is very cool--still working out the kinks--haven't tried downloading anything yet. When I'm comfortable with it, I'll PM my library name and password to you and you can give it a go...

# 8 Re: MC9 crashes when IPOD connected
Gosh, I really messed up in this forum. I changed my email addy and it happened to be incorrect. Just having a bad "typing" day. I wrote to the administrator but no answer. In the interim, because I am such a patient soul, I re-registered under a slightly different alias. All is ok now but now I'm jlkd instead of jlkd1. Oh well...
Chris, I still go back to Chicago twice a year- Xmas and mid-summer. I grew up right in the heart of the city and I will always love Chicago.
I only get about 7 hours on my IPOD now. I have disabled all the remaining settings that would eat into the battery time such as the clock, alarms, etc. I still only get about 7 hours...which I thought was pretty good. You can get up to twelve. Geez. I never know what I am doing wrong. Even so...I still love my IPOD and the only reason I would get a new one is because I only have a 10 GIG. Hmmm. Maybe they will begin to sell the older models...like a 20 GIG with a break in price. Naw...probably not.
As mentioned, I'd be happy to give the media server a try. Have to learn how to use it though. I can understand how the forum would not want folks providing individual connection info. You can email me off-line. By the way, do you use Direct Connect by Neomodus? I'm on there with plenty of bootlegs to share. Also quite a few EAD/LAME ripped/encoded MP3s. Email off-line.

Judith...If you're on tonight...PM me. We can try the media server thing.
Chris has been connecting to me, but he refuses to share. ;) Actually, there's some PC config issue.
But I'll show you mine if you'll show me your's. ;) :D

Shucks.
My DSL service went down early last evening. We have been drowning here in VA. It didn't see your message last night when it resurfaced. We'll connect up. Next time I log on and see you're on, I'll PM you.

Judith or Timmy--PM me too if you see me on--I think Adam is just hitting the wrong key or something--I want to see if everyone runs into the same problems Adam is having--and if anyone has any suggestions, feel free to fire away (I'm hoping though that my last round of voodoo I layed out on my computer will get it to work)...
And Judith--w/r to the batteries--make sure you have downloaded firmware version 1.2.6 from Apple (you probably already have), it makes a HUGE difference w/r to battery life...
