Whole CD as one MP3 file
Is there any software out there that will encode an entire CD as ONE MP3 file?
I have some classical music that I want to add to my iPod, but the ripping software that I have rips each track of each symphony individually, and the iPod plays them out of sequence. I wanted to have each complete symphony as ONE Mp3 to avoid this.

What search words would you suggest? I can't seem to get the search engine to find what you're referring to.

Is it possible to make one big file, and then put some kind of track marking in it?? so you have 1 file, but multiple tracks in it? - i dont think there is a way, but i might as well ask.

Exact Audio Copy (EAC) does it... i think you can find it on www.exactaudiocopy.com. and its free.
and no, you can't mark individual tracks inside one large mp3.. so you lose a little functionality

sorry, it's www.exactaudiocopy.de - it can be a bit of a bugger to set up but well worth it

I'd like to do the same thing, with audio books. I've downloaded and installed Exact Audio Copy, but am baffled about how to select an option to create a single MP3 out of the whole CD. It was suggested to search the forums, because this has been discussed many times, but I'm coming up empty in both the old and new forums when it comes to the precise option to set in EAC.
Thanks . . .

in the drop down menus in EAC;
Action / Copy Image & Create Cue Sheet / Compressed
enjoy!

Great! I'm on my way. Thanks for the tip. I'm still ending up with a huge WAV file (I realize this is an intermediate step), rather than the single MP3 file. I'm then opening MC9 and doing File--Convert. I think there must be a way to do the encoding step automatically within EAC, but haven't quite figured that out yet. I went into the options for EAC and specified an external Compression program--i.e., LAME.EXE in the JRiver subdirectory. But even though I did that, EAC beautifully created one huge WAV file and cheerfully told me that it was done, even though I specified that the CD image should be saved as an MP3 file.
Any additional pointers to fully automate this within EAC would be appreciated.

Doh! With two final steps, I think it is now fully automated: (1) I need to specify the correct external encoder (not only browsing to where LAME.EXE is located, but also specifying in the drop down list that I'm using LAME; and (2) I needed to set the check mark in EAC Options Tools (I think it was) "automatically start external decoder in background" or some such thing. This opens a DOS window and runs LAME within it.

glad you got it working ok ... like i said, it can be a bugger to set up! it isn't that intuitive either - i mean "Copy Image & Cue Sheet / Compressed" doesn't shout "Rip me one big MP3" does it? not that i'm complaining, it's a fabulous piece of software.
anyway, once you know, you know.
