Try rebooting it by holding down the menu and play/pause buttons until the apple screen comes up.
And please refrain from using bad language and names calling. It's in the forum guidelines.
But otherwise welcome.:)

This sound like a computer problem. Unfortunately I am not familiar with Macs. Sorry I can't help any further, but I know someone will be along and will help you get this solved.
By the way, can a mod move this to iPod Problems? under Mac?

The iPod tends to hang on the Do not disconnect! screen for me as well. To solve this, all I do is run iSync (have it up in the menu bar) and it syncs then disconnects (I regularly update iCal so I kill two birds with one stone using this method).

Try hitting the eject button on the bottom right of iTunes window. This happened to me once but the eject button overrode whatever was hanging. Hasn't happened since.
Another thought would be to quit iTunes. In other words, I would think the ipod is waiting for a command from iTunes and, for some reason, that command isn't going out. My assumption is that Apple would build some sort of essential shut down mechanism into their software - and that it would be acessible using something like the eject button or the quit command.

OK... launch iTunes, look in the bottom right-hand corner and find the iPod icon (not the one with the triangle). Click it and then DE-select "Firewire Disk Mode".
You can also simply just drag the iPod icon on your desktop to the trash to unmount it. With the Firewire Disk Mode it will always say "Do not disconnect" just as a reminder that you need to eject it from the desktop first.

I tried that, but that selection is "locked." Is there a preference setting that I'm missing?

What I usually do when this happens to me is to reboot it by holding down the menu and play/pause buttons, then remove it from the dock right when it shuts down. I then let it start up. Meanwhile, I restart my Mac. Once both are fully restarted, I plug the iPod back into the dock and this usually gets it to mount. Sometimes I have to do this 2 or 3 times.
I don't think this has happened since I stopped letting it auto start iTunes when the iPod is first connected. (I manually start iTunes now).
BTW, I have "Firewire Disk Mode" enabled.
