Filled Up Newbie!
I have a simple question, at least I hope.
I just bought a new 3G 15g ipod, and am using it on a G3 400Mhz imac
running OS 9.2.2. Everything seems to work just fine, but the HD on my
imac is only 10g. I have transferred about 6g of my mp3's to my ipod, but
will have to delete them on my imac and in itunes to add the rest, since my hard drive will not hold them all. Even if I use the manual update ipod mode, will itunes delete what is on my ipod now and then put what I have checked in itunes onto my ipod?
I have read many of the questions in this forum and I don't think that this exact question has been asked. If it has I have not seen or understood the answer.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. By the way this ipod is one of the greatest things I have ever seen, style and handeling are fantastic!!!
Thanks
John

OK, what you want to do is fine - as i did it myself. (If you use manual update, they'll stay on there till you delete them yourself).
I only have a 6gb Blue and White G3 tower here at home, and at work although i have a massive 120gb Silver G4, i only really work in OS9, so i was booting up in OSX at lunch times and making mp3s in AAC format - but as you can't read them back in OS9 (and the fact it's not my mac) i didn't keep the mp3s.
I kept copying them to the ipod, and then emptying the library and trashing the files.
The only thing is; i had an accident an lost ALL MY FILES :(
I'd got up to 3400 songs into my collection too. (I did a Nortons recovery and got some back, but some had glitches and i decided it was best to just start again).
So the thing is this;
Yes, you can do what you're asking - BUT, be prepared that if anything happens to your iPod (ie, if you accidentally select all and press 'apple-delete' - or if you just have a glitch that causes them to disappear cause you're using OS9 when G3 ipods are sposed to be used with OSX - they're gone for good.
Could you perhaps either burn some to discs (i know, a lengthy process) or get an external HD or even take your iPod round a mates who has a big HD and take the songs off the ipod (using one of the many apps out there) and store them on there?
Hope this helps :)
PS, i'm back upto 4950 songs now :D

There is also a script you can download called rip to ipod. It essentially rips tracks to ipod without putting the songs on your hard drive or itunes library.
