Help! Recovering lost iPod files after syncing.

Dear All,
I just tried to sink up a Mac with my iPod. But when doing so, my iPod took on the characteristics of the empty iTunes. So I ended up losing all of the music on my iPod! And of course I don't have it backed up anywhere else. I should have known better. I'm running OS 9.2.
Q: Do these files still exist somewhere on the iPod but are invisible or are they lost forever? What can I do to recover these files? Is it at all possible? Are there programs can help?

Thank you

They are lost. There are programs that can recover data from disks where the files have been deleted. I know they exist for Windows, not sure what's available for Macs.

Moving this to the iPod Problems>Mac board since it's platform specific.

Whatever you do, DON'T DO ANYTHING MORE WITH THE IPOD! Anything you do with it will increase the chances of permanent erasure.

I don't have any advice for file recovery under OS 9.2, but someone else will, I'm sure.
