Using a Mac, but iPod reads as a Windows device

When I got my iPod I had a PC laptop - I started putting MP3s on with MMJ.

I then got a Mac and have since been putting MP3s and more recently AAC encoded tracks on the little beauty.

No problems so far, but I just wondered why the device says it's a Windows machine in the About screen?

Should I format the iPod to Mac format? And just how the heck do I do that?

If everything's working OK (and it is) I'm inclined to leave as is - unless anyone can give me a very good reason not to leave as is.

when you got it on your PC laptop, you probably restored it on the PC so that it becomes formatted in FAT32 (PC format) you can restore it on your mac with the software updater but then you'll lose all your songs. If it works fine, you can leave it as it is.

I'd expect that the file copies from a Mac to a winPod would take longer than to a MacPod; at least, that was my experience with an external HD that I had forgotten to update to HFS+. However, since all your songs are already on the winPod, might as well leave it.

Some users report problems using a WiPod on a Mac, some don't. Like IlIlIlIlIl said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Should you decide to change it to a MiPod, you may have to, on top of runing iPod Software Updater, run Disk Utility and format the iPod as HFS+.
