Folder w/ Exclamation Point-PLEASE HELP ME
copying files to it. The files copied and just as it was ending the whole ####
thing froze up and I got the colorful yet horrid spinning wheel of death!
So I rebooted and when I tried to reboot the TiBook got the blue screen, loaded
its preferences and then stalled in its start up (it said something like waiting for local folders) until I unplugged the iPod. (ie the iPod is making the computer freeze etc) So I unplugged the iPod and it continued to start up fine.
Machine sarted with no iPod attached. Are U still with me?
So then, I thought HMMM what's up? So I plugged it back into the TiBook and it
didn't mount on the desktop, it didn't show up in iTunes... so i looked at the
iPod screen and it is showing the folder with exclamation point. (this is the
folder that I guess means it is not finding any system software on the iPod)
So I tried seeing if it would show up in Disk Utility. (thinking I could
reformat it) I opened Disk Utility and it froze with the wheel spinning.
(when I disconnect the iPod once again the disk utility continues to work normally)
I tried seeing if the iPod would show up in the apple system profiler and it does show
up there but that does me no good as far as I can tell??
Now, when it is attached it is literally freezing any programs I try to open on
the TiBook. It is still not showing up on the desktop, in iTunes, in Disk utility,
but it is still in the apple system profiler...
I tried hard restarting the iPod, it restarts, gives me the apple logo, then the
folder with the exclamation point. If I hard restart, while plugged into the
TiBook and then hold down the back/forward keys (forced fire wire mode) when the apple appears
I can get it to show it is charging and it gives me the normal "Do Not Disconnect" but that's
it! I can try pressing any other buttons and it goes nowhere.
I tried hooking up the iPod and reinstalling the 1.3 updater. It say "iPod connected but not mounted on the desktop" Then I click restore and I get the Spinning wheel of death AGAIN!
I have tried everything at this point. I should also mention that I have repeated all these steps on my desktop G4 to make sure there was no TiBook issues and everything is exactly the same when I try it on my desktop!
My only idea was to try to get it to mount on a PC and then try to install the PC iPod software??
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. There must be some way to re-format the disc. Right??
Thanks so much in advance!
