Switching To Mac

I currently have a windows format ipod that is loaded with my music and I am going to purchase my first mac. Is there a way that I can connect my current ipod to the mac and add music to it or will I have to do something to convert the ipod. What I am worried about is having to reformat the ipod and reinstall all of the songs that are currently on the windows formatted ipod.

Thank you

We seem to do this a lot! You might check some of the other posts in the Mac forums here. Some folks prefer to leave it formatted for a PC, others for a Mac.

You might want to download a third party program like iPod.iTunes to copy your files from the iPod to the Mac. Your Mac will recognize a FAT32 formatted iPod, but DON'T let it run the Mac Updater on it unless you've got your music backed up somewhere else.

That's the same thing my bro did and it worked fine. What comp are you getting?

I hear soon they will discontinue the titanium (thank goodness) and move it to aluminum. Also some feature changes.

raydemel-
Do what I did. Put your mp3 folder onto the iPod (in HDD) and just transfer the MP3 folder over to your iTunes folder. Then download the iPod updater to format iPod to Mac. Easy as pie.

I got the powerbook and when I plugged my winnie ipod in it was recognized but it will not let me move music that I have downloaded from the apple store to the ipod. I can create a playlist in itunes but when i try to move music from the powerbook to the ipod it does not work. I can see the ipod and all of the songs that are on it. Maybe the easiest way is to reformat the ipod to mac and start all over. There are several updater programs on the apple site but could anyone tell me which one is the right one to use on the 2nd generation windows ipod?

raydemel,

You want the 1.3 updater. ( http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ipodsoftwareupdate13.html)

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the software and went ahead and restored the ipod. Even though I lost all of the songs on the ipod, it did reformat the ipod and now it works on the mac and itunes. This is definitely much better than what it was on the windows platform.

I just got my Powermac G5, and I totally reformatted my iPod for use with the Mac. Holy freakin' Christmas. My iPod came alive! Smart playlists, ratings, total sync-age with iCal and the like, and my clock works now (it stopped for some reason). Totally worth making it a MacPod.

And just for the record, don't ever use Move2Mac if you've got an iPod. I tried to migrate with the Move2Mac software and bridge cable, and it estimated the time at around 13 hours... I used my iPod as a firewire disk and migrated everything to my new Mac in about 2 hours. Again, iPod makes me have nice dreams.

Love that Pod!

I am waiting dor my Dual G5. have you had a chance to use iTunes visualizer yet? I was wondering what the frame rate was (no rate cap, full screen). Oh and how much RAM did you get?

I'm a total Mac newbie, this being my first Mac of my own, so I'm not sure how to check the frame rate on the iTunes visualizer, but full screen it looks gorgeous still. I got a Powermac G5, 1.8 Ghz processor, 1 Gb RAM. I want to expand to at least 2 Gb of Ram before the end of the year. Let me know if you have any other questions about the G5, I may be able to help with my limited knowledge. ;)

Open iTunes. Click on the Visualizer menu, turn off full screen and turn on either small, medium or large. Then turn on the visualizer. In the iTunes window you'll see a widget in the upper right hand corner. Click on it and choose Display Frame Rate, and Use OpenGL. Uncheck the other options if they aren't already. Click OK. Then go back to the Visualizer menu and turn on full screen. You should get a number in the upper left corner. Hey have you hooked up your optical digital? That's one of the built in features that I'm looking forward to.
