I'm having problems trying to get my ipod to play while in it's cradle charging. Sometimes, it plays like there's static and eventually stops playing all together. And gradually, as I trying to use the controls (ie, go back one menu, select a different artist, etc.) it becomes unresponsive and just gets stuck on one screen. I notice that the battery icon at the top is also stuck (the charge bar isn't animated). The only way to fix it is to do a reset of the ipod (menu + play). Is this a common problem or is there something wrong with my ipod.

3rd Gen, 15gig ipod, about 2 weeks old
about 2500 songs, 13gigs filled
setup
- cradle hooked up to powered iogear firewire hub which is hooked up to quicksilver
- line out is connected through monster isplitter to jbl creature speakers which are also connected to quicksilver
Usually freezes on song screen - progress bar or time elapsed no longer moves, though song may continue to play for a little bit. Eventually, everything stops.
