Connecting my iPod to someone elses mac - sync question

I have my iPod just the way I want and have it set with my iTunes to manually manage songs and playlists.

Is this setting for manually managing songs on the iPod or on my Mac within iTunes? If I connect the iPod to someone else's Mac (which has never had an iPod connected to it), will it try to synch with the iTunes on that computer?

Yes, it will try to sync. Before connecting the iPod, change the setting in iTunes to Manually manage tunes. Otherwise it'll wipe out everything on the iPod.

I've looked and looked and don't see how to change the setting in iTunes without the iPod being connected and recognized by iTunes. How in iTunes do I change the setting before connecting the iPod?
