Mac iPod vs. Windows iPod

I have a second generation 20 GB Windows iPod that I've been using under Windows with EphPod. I recently purchased a PowerBook and would like to use it instead of the Windows box to control the iPod. I transferred all of my songs over to the PowerBook ("open -a iTunes */*" in a Terminal window in the iPod's music directory did the trick but copied no playlists) and am just about ready to go but have one question...

What's the benefit of formatting the iPod to be a "Mac iPod" instead of a "Windows iPod"? It seems the PowerBook is able to speak to the Windows iPod without any difficulty - at least as an external device; not sure if iTunes will treat it as an iPod proper. If I kept it as a Windows iPod, then I could still hook it up to PCs and transfer files there. I assume there must be some features that are only available to Mac iPods. Could someone clue me in as to what these are?

That's brilliant!

If you want to copy playlists from the iPod to iTunes, try this AppleScript (http://www.malcolmadams.com/itunes/scripts/scripts08.shtml#mirroripodplaylists).

Some users have problems getting iTunes to play well with WiPods. Others don't. If you're not having problems, I wouldn't worry about it, but if you start having issues, you might want to switch it over to a MiPod. EphPod will work with MiPods.
