Win-Mac conversion question
Hi All-
I decided to go ahead and format my iPod for the Mac to try it out. I have a new iMac (17" flat panel, 1GHz etc). I copied all of my music from my PC to my iPod and proceeded to plug the iPod into my Mac. I transfered all of my mp3s to iTunes. Cool, everything is in iTunes. Then I went to the iPod options and set it for auto-update it told me I would have to update my iPod...as expected...so it went through a lengthy process of formatting my iPod (or so I thought). Anyway now on my iPod I have all of the smart playlists and everything expected on a Mac iPod, but on the about screen it still says "format: Windows". Why? Also when you view the iPod on iTunes, is all of the music supposed to be 'greyed out' so you can't mess with it? Do I actually need to download an updater? I thought I could fully update it in iTunes. Help!

Nick, I'm not sure why it still thinks its a Windows iPod unless there's something written into its original firmware with the serial number that says it was sold as a WiPod. Hmmmmmm...
Viewing the iPod through iTunes will always show the songs as grayed out. They don't really want you messing with them from there. Naturally, there are ways to get around that.

Update-
I downloaded the Mac updater. I restored the iPod (wiped it clean) and hooked it up to my Mac. Seems like it's now a Mac Pod (on the about screen there is no format listed). The only discerning thing is that in iTunes, when I am looking at the iPod's music, all of the tunes are still greyed out (I can't select any of the songs, search in the iPod etc...). Is this normal?
EDIT: Thanks Cate, it now sounds as though my iPod is working fine. I find it very strange though that you can't touch the songs in the iPod!

mongoose150,
In the lower right-hand corner of iTunes, when the iPod is plugged in, there's an iPod button. Click it. Change your settings to manual update. Now you'll be able to manipulate songs on the iPod.
