Normalising/standardising volume?
Hi,
Firstly - GREAT site and forums... Very impressed with the general advice and friendliness here!
I just bought a 30Gb iPod (after thinking about it for a long time) and although it technically seems fantastic, I'm having the traditional problem of some MP3s being lots louder than others.
I've now got about 250 tracks in my iTunes 2.0.4 - yep, I use OS 9 on my Mac for now - and the only way I can see of getting all the tracks to the same standard volume level is by manually going through all of them...
I know MP3 Gain is available for OS X (is there really no OS 9 version - or equivelent program?)...
Is there any way for me to sort my MP3s out in OS 9 without having to do it manually?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know that one can click on the Sound Check box in iTunes preferences under OS X, but I don't recall if that's available in earlier versions of iTunes. Perhaps someone else will know. :)

I took the 'plunge' and upgraded to OS 10.1.5 (I still can't afford to go to )S 10.2/Jaguar yet!)... And indeed... iTunes 4 has the 'Sound Check' option which works great in iTunes... but doesn't adjust the MP3s when I play back on the iPod.
This means that while I'm playing them out in the office through the 'Pod, one minute I'm playing something barely audible and the next... BOOM! Everyone is diving for the volume control!
Am I doing something wrong?! Is there a way (without MP3 Gain) to have the iPod play the MP3s back at the same 'Sound Checked' volume that I've set in iTunes?
Any advice/help MUCH appreciated...

Also, the SoundCheck unfortunately doesn't work quite right on the iPod, there's apparantly a coding bug. LONG thread on the Apple official boards about this. You may notice that a "quiet" CD is still too quiet on the iPod (although it is better than before).

Hi,
I'm having the same volume-problem with my ipod 30GB. Isb't there a way to equalize the volume of all my songs on my Ipod ? We started deejaying with our pods and the sound is the biggest problem. How do I get the volume of all songs on the same level, so nobody runs away 'caus the music is suddenly too loud :-)
