More space taken up on iPod than on Hard Drive
I have been using auto-sync with in iTunes with my new 15gb ipod. Everything is working fine. But, whenever I edit a song or multiple songs information, you know just the tag info, the ipod updates those songs when auto-sync occurs (like it should). The problem is, when it updates those songs it is as if it is loading copies of them onto the ipod again. The space taken up on my ipod rises but the space taken up on my hd library stays constant. I checked, the same songs and same amount of songs are in both my iTunes library on my hd and my ipod. Yet, more space is taken up on my ipod than on my hd library.
But this shouldnt be the case. They are supossed to be synced and they have exactly the same music. Everytime I change songs info more space is taken up on my ipod but not my hd. Its really tickin me off. Anyone know whats going on here?

Editing any file in iTunes will create duplicate references in your iTunes library, since iTunes is then referencing the song in two different ways, even though it's the same song. I'm not sure what the best way to clean this up is going to be, but perhaps the guys with some AppleScript experience can help you delete older refereneces...? E? Doug?

I figured it out. What I was seeing was this...
The ipod (at least the 3rd gen) starts with 30mb or so freshly restored with nothing loaded. This 30mb was the extra space taken up that I was seeing compared with my iTunes library. On top of this extra 30mb existing, whenever a songs information is edited, it is re-copied as caterinka said, but it copies over the original song, it does not make duplicates. Actually, I think it deletes the original song.
Example:
Say I synced with my ipod and my itunes library after editing some song information. Those songs will be deleted from the ipod and reloaded. So when I see the space taken up rising on my ipod, it is just being reloaded and no more is being added; just taken away and then re-added. Thanks for the help caterinka anyways.
Now all of you who wondered why there was always 30mb more space taken up on your ipod than in your iTunes library, but you always synced, now you know why. That 30mb is the database on the ipod that is always there.
