3.0 iPod on iMac333

First of all, i'm 19 and have not got enough money to buy a new computer equipped with firewire. I did, however, have enough money to buy a new 10GB iPod which i am obsessed with! The only problem is, my computer will only recognise iPod as a drive, it will not sync with iTunes. To show my devotion to the iPod, i burned all my MP3s onto several CDs and took everything over to my friend's house and installed it on his PC, and then after 2 days of tedious activity, i put my songs on the iPod at last. My friend doesn't have an internet connection, so i can't update my iPod with any cool software updates that i hear so much about!

I have tried everything i can to get my iPod to work on my iMac but to no avail; and then to taunt me, iTunes opens automatically when i plug the iPod in using a USB 2.0 cable! I thought it was finally working, but it still doesn't recognise it, so i don't know why it opens automatically, i guess just to p*ss me off. Whenever i get a new album, i have to go over to my friend's and it's really a pain in the a**, i was hoping that Apple would release a firmware update to allow older mac users to experience easy iPod use. They gave more support to PC users which is unfair to loyal mac users, i have emailed them but they don't reply to feedback, so i have no idea if there is anything being done about it. This really makes me want to tear my hair out! I think this is the strongest love/hate relationship between man and machine. Does anyone have any news on whether Apple will provide support for USB mac users? Any suggestions or alternative solutions would be greatly appreciated...
