iPod screen discolouration

The screen on our new (as of June 2003) 30 Gig iPod takes on what I call a stressed look after use. The neutral greenish colour has a rippled colouration effect reminiscent of the "rainbow" you see on a wet road due to patches of oil. It can be seen quite clearly when viewing the screen from any angle, although it does not obscure text on the screen.

This effect radiates outward from the centre-top of the screen, immediately beneath the point where the headphones port is located.

Has anyone either (a) also noticed this effect, or (b) have any ideas as to whether it is potentially harmful to the iPod?

My two pods (a G2 and G3) both have this "feature". It's only really noticeable in natural light and you can't see it indoors.

It's similar to the "bruising" effect you get on LCD displays if they get damaged.

Even though it's visible, I wouldn't say it's doing any harm to your Pod!
