How do I turn the clock and calendar off?

I have a 10 gig Ipod with version 1.3 installed. This weekend I went camping with a few friends, one of whom also had an Ipod...a 20 gig version. Whereas my battery was long dead by the end of the two day trip, he listened to his ipod more than I did AND he still had half a charge left. He said I ought to turn off the calendar and clock off. Before mine died, we looked and neither of us could figure out how to do this on mine. He didn't remember how he'd done it on his. I've looked online and can't find how to do this, and I've charged the Ipod and still can't figure it out. I tried updating the software to version 2.01, but I have the older scroll-wheel type ipod and my Ipod wouldn't allow me to install the software. Any suggestions?

I don't think you can turn the clock and calendar off. I also don't think they were your problem though. I wonder - when you were done using your iPod, did you put it to sleep? Or did you just leave it on "pause" and let it go to sleep by itself? If you put it to sleep manually, then it unloads data from the buffer, whereas allowing ti go to sleep while paused makes it keep that data in the buffer which drains the battery.

My friend did in fact turn the calendar and clock off. Somehow. I even looked at his Ipod, and the clock just reads 12:00:00 and it doesn't advance. The calendar stays on January 1st. He does have the newer (not newest) ipod where the scroll wheel doesn't turn, but other than that, his is the same as the original. He also has the newer software on it, but, unfortunately, he doesn't remember how he was able to get the clock and calendar to stop. Still, I'm glad you made the suggestion you did, because I do in fact let the ipod go to sleep by itself. I'll be sure to avoid doing so in the future. If you have any other suggestions, I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you again for your suggestions. And if I figure out how he turned off the clock and calendars, I'll definitely post how to do so. :)
