My computer doent know my iPod is there.

I have been gone for about nineteen days and I come home to hook my iPod up to my computer, but my iMac is not registering that the iPod is hooked up. There is no icon, and it's not showing up in iTunes. What's going on here? How do I fix it?

mine used to know it was there, but now it just sort of flashes it's icon on the screen for half a second and disappears. I'd like to know about this too.

Have you tried turning on the option to use ipod as firewire disk, when ipod is docked a small ipod icon appears in tunes at the bottom, click this then check the enable fire use.
