Many VBR MP3 files crash after pause

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and I'm having a problem. I've had my iPod for about six months and during that period I've had to deal with a consistent problem. I encode my mp3 files from my music CD's via iTunes with 112 Kbps with highest quality VBR encoding. (Since I only have the 5 GB version this maximizes the amount of music I can put on it.)

I've found that a lot of the mp3's I've created this way will crash my iPod after pausing the song and pressing play again to resume. Rather than resume there is silence for a moment, and then the iPod restarts itself with the Apple icon on the screen. The songs will play fine if I don't pause them, and I can fast forward OK and skip songs back and forth. I just can't come out of pause OK. This basically seems to be a random problem.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is it possible it's a bug in iTunes/iPod? Is there some way to check my mp3's for corruption? Thanks.
