New iPods: Win to Mac
I have a new 15Gb iPod which I initially installed on my PC. Now I want to run it from my mac but none of the software updates on the mac will run properly. They detect the iPod but don't enable the restore or update buttons. When I look at the about screen on the iPod it notes that it is a Windows iPod. I take it that is why the Mac won't let me install the updates.
Is there anyway I can make this iPod a Mac iPod?

You can make it a Mac iPod pretty easily by running the Mac updater -- but back everything up first, or it will be gone. Then use it on your PC by running Ephpod or Xplay and MacOpener.

No. The Mac updaters (2.0.1 and 1.3) won't let me restore or update the iPod. The windows equivalents will but the mac ones have their buttons disabled. I am comfortable doing updates and restores as this is the second iPod I have had. However I want to leave my windows box behind (as far as the iPod is concerned anyway) so it is important I can get to a point that I can do future updates from the Mac.
Does anyone know if I can get rid of any windows association (shown in the about screen) by formatting the iPod using the Mac? What format does the Mac iPod use? MS-DOS (FAT) or HFS+?
Remember this is a iPod v3 15Gb so it is shipped as Mac or PC compatible however to me it looks like there is a difference depending on which OS you use to first set up your iPod.

Provided you've backed up al your files on your iPod, you can reformat the iPod as an HFS+ disk using Disk Utility. Once you've done this, the updater should work.
