Apple or Best Buy?

which is a better deal...the buy a bundle discount or the best buy warranty? given the fact that a 12" powerbook will also be bought. four years of protection is really nice, but so is $200. any thoughts, ideas, etc. would be much appreciated.

You might consider checking with your local CompUSA about a warranty. They'll often sell you one that's very similar to the Best Buy warranty if you have your Apple receipt, but it seems to vary a bit by locality. That way you can get the best of both options. :)

Best Buy is overcrowded understaffed (also very rude). I don't care for CompUSA either (their sales associates lie about thier TAP warranties). I would highly reccomend you going to Apple. Especially if you are going to buy a powerbook (which Best Buy does not carry) go to Apple. Their sales associates are no-pressure, they are also very friendly and knowledgable (unlike in CompUSA). Their stores also kick!

I had problems with my 20 bg model. It stopped responding. When I tried to take it in for service to Best Buy, they said it wasn't covered under the warranty that I purchased from them. I was really upset. What is the point of a warranty that doesn't do anything? CompUSA is your best bet. My girlfriend bought a 10 gb from there and the protection plan. It protects against just about everything: fire, dropping it in the toilet, acts of god, you name it. Check with them first.

acts of god

ME: Well so I lent my iPod to God, and, you'll never believe this, dude dropped it. I was like you invented hands dude, and yet you dropped my iPod.

BEST BUY: I'm sory sir, our warranty only cover products that aren't broken. It doens't cover acts of God. Why doesn't God just, you know, magic you a new one out fo thin air?

ME: I tired to get him to do just that. But he said, and I quote 'That creation ex nihilo thing is so 4 billon years ago. And he went to go bowling.

BEST BUY: That must suck, bowling against God.

ME: Not really. He rarely breaks 100. He'll roll, and hit six pins or so and come back to His seat muttering about how the laws of physics aren't supposed to work like that, and he should know. Poor guy. Doesn't really take defeat that well.
