I tried updating to 1.3 on my scroll 5 gig ipod. I hit restore and now it won't appear on desktop. I tried to do what apple says to get to firewire mode and nothing happens at all. They say I have to drain the battery for 24 hours!
Is this the truth? and how?
any help please someone

Hey rickyv64 - Welcome to iPodlounge! :)I have heard that draining iPod's battery has been known to clear up some quirky issues, so if Apple is recommending you do that, I'd sure give it a try.
To quickly drain the battery, just play a long album or playlist on repeat and set it aside (or listen to it if you'd like! ;)) until the low battery icon appears. Then, let it sit for 24 hours to insure the battery completely drains.
Then give it a full 3 hour charge and see if your Mac will mount it. If not, I'd try putting it into forced FW mode again and see if that works.

you could also try re-setting the firewire ports on the mac (worked for me when i had the same problem) by unplugging the mac from the wall for a couple of mins then plugging it back in.dave_b9000 at 2007-11-15 16:52:26 >

I tried the battery drain 2x now and no luck! I have reset the firewire ports as well, and all the other recommended fixes and no dice with my 5 GB.bimmmer at 2007-11-15 16:53:25 >

Yeah, I also updated my 5gb iPod to 1.3 and it mounts on the desktop but not in iTunes 4 under OsX 10.1.5. I've tried restoring the iPod. Wasn't sure if I could reset the firewire ports (I have an iBook), but I tried by shutting down and removing the battery, then starting up again in 15 minutes, but still nothing. I'd try draining the iPod battery, but considering the number of people having this problem here and on the Apple and MacFixit forums, I think I'll have to resign myself to waiting for a software update from Apple.gegresh at 2007-11-15 16:54:19 >

Yes, waiting does suck, especially when you've restored your iPod and erased all the music on it. Anyone know of a simple way to get music onto the iPod and have it be readable by the iPod player? I hate not using iTunes, but I hate not using my iPod a lot.gegresh at 2007-11-15 16:56:22 >
