How can I delete 1 song...

Although I am stunned that there is no feature to delete one song from the handheld unit, the nice lady at Mac told me to check here for some hints...
Do I need to add some software or something?
Thanks for the help...

Well, while we are honored that "the nice lady" at Apple recommended us, she should have known enough to tell you that, no, there is no way to delete a song off of the iPod directly on the unit itself.

You need to attach it to your Mac, set iPod Preferences in iTunes to manual updating, select the iPod from the Sources list on the left side of the iTunes window, and delete the song(s) from within iTunes.

And, BTW, welcome to iPodlounge! :)

I don't know how happy I'd be about it though c.c.r.

Seems like they're just passing the buck on the problems they don't want to deal with on their help lines, to the lounge :D

Heh aye.

You'd think that with all the iPod tech support we do, we could get some free bandwidth offa Apple, at least, eh? ;)

Bandwidth? I want a free 30G. So I can learn to troubleshoot the new models. Strictly for scientific learning purposes, mind you. Yeah, that's it!

caterinka, sounds logical enough to me.

You'd think apple would be first to jump on the boat to sponsor this place. i could only imagine the amount of apple products that have been purchased because of this forum.

But hey, maybe i'm missing something (like the fact that they're getting it all for free so far ;)

Of course there is a bit of a conflict of interests there.

Apple's website, at one time, said "It is not possible to convert a Mac-formatted iPod to a Windows-formatted iPod" while, at the same time, here on iPodlounge, yours truly was shouting "Bollocks! Here's how to do it!!"

If we had to "tow the offical line" I'd quit in a heartbeat. :D

i always attributed that to them trying to scare people into getting a mac to go with their ipod.

i guess this place is more of the renegade ipod source then, eh?
you've got to find a way to hack the firmware to show the ipodlounge logo in place of the apple logo when the ipod boots up ;)
