Music Sharing Question

Quick question to you iPod Wizards:
Here's the scenario. My friend loved the music on my iPod during our roadtrip. He wants to know if I can download all the music to his iTunes on his Mac.
Is this possible?
Mucho thanks for your input!

legaly, no, physically yes. a bunch of programs exist for you to download the music off of your ipod onto a mac, just do a quick search on the net, or look in the downloads section.

but i wouldn't......... would i.............

Heck, I think that if you buy the songs, you own them, and can do whatever you want with them... Why wont the iPod let you take it off normally?

Because YOU own them not your friend. If you want your friend to have them GIVE your friend the cd's, no lending either, that's cheating! (Unless he deletes the mp3's after he gives them back)

I kno I wouldn't do that either, but that's why you can't do it normally, I think, cuz it's illegal.

Beyond any moral or legal obligations, you can sync your ipod with his iTunes just as well as you do with your own.

The process is the same. Just plug it in and either automatically sync it on his machine (assuming he has nothing in his library, and you tell iTunes to leave all songs on the ipod whether they're in his library or not). or you can transfer them manually from your ipod to his library.

I'm not sure about the music you purchased via the music store, and how the DRM works when it comes to multiple computers, but I recall hearing that you can use the music on upto three different macs.

I'm a windows user, so I'm not too familiar with music downloaded from the iTunes music store.

Nope-- the "sync", as it were, is only one way. Why they call it a "sync" is another issue all together. When you "sync" your iPod with iTunes, you are placing the songs from the iTunes Library onto the iPod. Without 3rd-party software, songs will NOT transfer from the iPod to iTunes. At least not that I have seen. The iPod will show up as a separate Source so that you can play songs on the iPod through iTunes' interface, though.

ah, thanks cybergoober. I guess i'm too much of a PC user ;)

BernieNYC,
You could always copy the mp3s from the ipod's harddrive to his harddrive, and take on the task of renaming the files all manually. keep in mind that although the file names will have been changed, the ID3 tags will still be intact.

Unless of course i've missed another feature about the macs that won't let you do that either.

thanks for correcting me though. my experience with a mac is hardly enough to call myself an expert, so if i slip up like that, all you mac heads please feel free to jump in and correct me :)

sandeep, I think you are on the verge of being a switcher, trolling as you are in the Mac section! I made the switch in March, come on in, the water is fine. ;)

I tried actually, this past august.

My computer was quickly becoming outdated, (pentium 3, 450) and i've been a fan of apple hardware since i was but a boy, so I had planned to get myself sexy little mac.

the only thing holding me back was the cost. I ended up putting about 700 dollars into my machine to pretty much replace all the internals, and that was that. the mac was going to cost me around $3500. that's all canadian dollars by the way, before anyone pipes up telling me i spent too much ;)

but yeah, i'm a happy windows user, but i've always been a bit jealous of apple hardware users :P

[edit]
and about me hanging out in the mac forum, i was sucked into here because this post was moved from the general forum. so it's not entirely me trying to sneak my way in here. just for the record :D

yeah if you use an application called xpod it shows all the invisable music files on your ipod, allowing you to copy them to your mate mac.
Then add them to the itunes library..
