I've got the same problem. Looks like I have to send mine back too. It was actually working fine for the first 3 weeks. Did the say what the cause was?

no, both the technical help at apple and jigsaw(were i purchased IPOD) could nt help or explain the problem...!
The only answer was to swap the IPOD...
What system are you using?

A great many owners of new iPods have reported this problem; thus far I've not seen a solution to it. Some folks get lucky and the iPod just quits on its own, but that's not the case for most of them.

A GREAT many? That s a bit of a worry, is this a case of apple rushing out a product before its ready??
I have no complaints about the ipod , but will it die a day after the warrently expires??...............

So much for wanting to raise this problem with Apple. I was all ready to call
up their support today. Instead, running late for the office I slipped, fell,
grazed my palm which didn't hurt as much as seeing my 1 month old iPod
fly across the pavement!! Oh man, that was like a knife slashed right across
my heart. Needless to say, it's now kaput.

I will be returning the iPod to Apple service, but for a completely different
reason :-(.

P.S. Matto, I've got a PBG4-500/MacOSX 10.2.6

I had the same problem with my new 30gig. Apple said they couldn't do anything other than have it sent in for repairs. I bought it at Best Buy, and have the protection plan, so I was going to return it.

I brought it in, and when the tech guy at Best Buy plugged it in it worked fine. Then I realized I had totally drained the battery. I have read in some forums that draining the battery completely, then charging it up again will work as a fix for this problem. Give it a try - leave it on until it goes dead, then recharge the sucker and reboot it.

hope that helps

OK I'm completely baffled. Yesterday after I dropped my iPod,
disk scanning failed completely, I also had the "Folder!". Anyway,
I let the battery drain and today, it worked. I did another disk
scan today, and it came clean - ok, I was pleasantly and mildly
surprised that my iPod came back to life, but not overly
surprised as recommended everywhere in Apple's iPod support,
draining the battery does seem to "do something".

Here's the completely baffling/surprising bit. I reset my iPod
(Menu/PlayPause), it rebooted itself maybe 2-3 times, and it
came back!! I'm trying to repeat the continual reboot issue but
it just kept coming back!!

So I guess the solution to fixing the continual reboot issue is,
to drop your iPod :-) (kidding of course).

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth dude. :)

I guess you have to watch and see if it happens again. Everyone once in a while my 30gig will act strange, then just keep chugging along.

They can be tempermental, but so much fun.

Hey Matto/MicFlash,

FYI: Try this to get out of the continual reboot. See if it works for you but
I've been able to get it working for me reasonably consistently (yes, my
continual reboot came back).

Whilst it's rebooting continuously, just after a reboot, press the play/pause.
Wait for a while, and the Apple logo should stop disappearing/reappearing
(i.e. sorta stop or pause rebooting). Then hit the Select button. That should
get you out to the menu system.

Of course it doesn't solve the continual reboot problem but it gets you out
of it. See if it works for you as I seem to be able to get that working for me
consistently.

P.S. Yes the iPod is still going back and hopefully I get a replacement for
free but seeing that I've dropped/scratched/dented it, they may blame
the problem from "misuse" rather.

So what about his... I have the continuous re-boot problem also. Generally before that happens I have other issues. I charge the pod overnight, once you unplug it, the "Charged" logo stays on, continuously (even overnight). If I start playing something it may or may not work. If it does, it is a crap shoot as to how long it will last. Generally around 10 to 20 minutes into it, it will give the low power, please plug me in message. Then it will start the re-boot cycle.

I am guessing that it is dead. I just got it on Thursday night though, and Best Buy is out of the 15 gig. Oh well...
