Does anyone else's ipod get hot when connected to their computer? How can I fix this?

Yes. It's typical. If you need to leave it plugged in to charge it, unmount it.

Or, alternatively, use the AC adapter instead of your Mac to recharge your iPod.

Both when using the AC adapter, or when unmounted and connected to your Mac, the iPod's HDD will not spin constantly. Otherwise, if it is connected to your Mac and mounted, the iPod's HDD will spin constantly, which is what is causing the heat build up.

I use the Ipod with a windows machine. So i charge it through the AC adapter. It never heats up when charging. SO maybe the heat problem is only when the Ipod is charging through the firewire port.
