Not checked in itunes, still plays on ipod! Interesting.

Hi all,

Was just randomingly playing through my ipods music and all the sudden a song from my John Denver and the Muppets Christmas Album (It's not christmas without the piggy pudding!) starts playing! I found this interesting because I unchecked this in itunes after the christmas season. It's not quite Christmas in july yet. Unchecked songs don't play in itunes, but this doesn't seem to transfer over to the ipod. I guess I will take them out of my library (but keep on the hard drive) until the season returns.

Funny.

Bring me some piggy pudding in a couple more months.

Cheers,
Stu-dog

That a file is checked is data that doesn't get transferred to the iPod. To disable the track on the iPod, you have to uncheck it on the iPod. (Of course, if you're not going to listen to it, you could just leave it off the iPod altogether...)

Don't take out of library. Just make playlists, then change the preferences so you update only selected playlists. Click on the ipod on the lower right and select the ones you want - the rest won't be on the ipod but will remain in itunes. When Xmas comes around, add that playlist to your updates.

Here's another example: I have a Keep it? playlist for stuff that I'm testing - for sound quality, interest, etc. This one will never be added to the ipod, but when I rip unfamiliar stuff or download some obscure Peruvian music, I drag it into that playlist. Then I can make more, move, etc.

But be aware that when you connect your ipod after selecting update only selected playlists, you do have to open the ipod icon and do that.

thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think it will work for me. I don't have all my music in playlists, I don't see any need at the time. Maybe in the future.

What I did find was a preference that I needed to check which was to update checked songs only. Of course, I found this preference after I removed them from my library... They'll find there way back there though.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Cheers,
Stu

It's the same as on a PC really. Open iTunes and connect your iPod. Select the iPod in the source and then look in the lower right corner of iTunes There is an button with an iPod on it. Click on it and it will open iPod preferences. The window that opens will have the option that needs to be checked to update only checked songs.

Good Luck.
