iTuness consolidate library?

Did anyone ever used the "consolidate library" in iTunes? I read it copy all the files in the library in the Music folder of iTunes... but how does it names the files? How does it place them? In which folders?
More precision on this command would be appreciated ;)
Thanks!

Moving this to the iPod Mac>iTunes section as it's not a general question...

The consolidate library feature will COPY all song files that are not in the iTunes Music folder into the folder, inside Home Folder > Music > iTunes > iTunes Music. The files will be organized according to Artist and then Album.

Thanx!

And the filename will be named after the song? And all extensions will be there?

If you have the "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" option checked in the Advanced preferences, the song file will be renamed using the file's ID3 song name tag. The extenstion will always stay, however.

Be careful when you use this option. I had it turned on for a while, and it was corrupting my mp3s.

Really... that's strange. I haven't heard of this problem before.
