One iPod, Two Macs...
Hi,
I have looked all over the board and have learned about software that makes download of music from the iPod (Podworks) and software that allows sync of playlists and songs (iPod.iTunes).
I have an iMac at home and an iBook. I am not willing to buy neither of the softwares I mentioned now (I know that are some freeware around also) but I want to have a mirror of my library in each computer. For two main reasons: back up (I don't want to save in 3-4 DVDs right now) and second: I will be able to listen music in both computers.
I was just wondering if someone have tried to use Synchronize! Plus (or similar soft or just copying the files) and make the mirror iTunes library on a second computer (Via Firewire/airport connection).
If so, what files you have synchronized? Also, and most importantly: will the iPod recognize the two computers as one? i. e. where the iPod looks to see that its a different computer?
I appreciate any help!!
Thanks a lot

OK, first, you can sync the iBook and the iMac without using the iPod--in fact, it's probably easier to do so without it. Here's how:
* Shut down the iBook
* Connect the iBook to the iMac using a FireWire cable
* Boot the iBook while holding down the "T" key on the iBook's keyboard. This will boot it into "target disk mode."
* Your iBooks' hard disk will now appear on the desktop of your iMac as if it were an external FireWire drive.
* Duplicate your iTunes Music folder from iMac to iBook.
* Eject your iBook's disk.
* Hold down the power key on your iBook until it shuts down.
* Disconnec the FireWire cable.
You're done! Now your iTunes library should be the same on both machines.
If you want to not copy everything over each time, you can use some file synchronization utility. I prefer the command-line tool 'psync', though some prefer the GUI version, PsyncX. Works great for me, and free. (This assumes OS X.)
Your iPod will know that these are two different machines, though, I think--you should probably set it to sync manually.

Hi SunByrne,
Thanks for your reply... I was thinking about using the Tager mode to synch the two libraries as you mentioned... I will make a test and see if I synch all the prefs files for iTunes and iPod I can manage to have the Ipod recognizing the two machines as one... I have Synchronize Pro, so that makes easier for me (I am not expert on comand line).
Thanks again
