how can I get my 3,600 MP3 tunes from Windows PC to a new Mac? (i.e. - into iTun

I am a new owner of a PowerBook Mac with iTunes. The problem for me is that I already have about 3,600 mp3 files loaded up/ripped on my old Windows ME edition PC (they are organized by MusicMatch and are already loaded into my 30G iPOD that is formatted for Windows).

How can I transfer all of my Windows-based music to my new Mac powerbook (and therefore into iTunes)? I don't really have to re-format the IPOD I guess - it works OK now, and I can keep it on the PC-based system. Still, I would like to have access to all of my music on the new spacious PowerBook (without having to laboriously re-rip all the CD's into it). Any ideas?

Is there a server "for rent"? where I could copy my ~15G Windows music files to, and then access and download into the new Mac notebook? Or some special software to copy the files into the new machine?

All suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Check the downloads section. It sounds like you need one of the nifty mac utilities that will let you open your iPod on the Mac (don't run the updater!) and move them to iTunes.

I just travelled down the same road, although I have 19K mp3's. What I did was:

1. Connect my OS X (10.26, iTunes 4.01) iMac to my home network.

2. Attach to my Windows XP Pro machine using the Jaguar Windows networking support. ME should respond the same.

3. Imported my MP3's into iTunes

4. Installed iPod 1.3 (Mac) on my Windows iPod (Gen 2). In your case you should be fine as is.

5. Syncronize with iTunes

6. Don't look back.

Hope this helps!

Are going to reformat your ipod for mac and itunes? If so before you reformat just clear all the songs off of the ipod to create space then copy the my music folder on to the ipod. Then you can hook the ipod up to your ibook and pull off that folder.

I just did this to move 10.3 GB from my win xp to G4 machine. Just make sure autosynch in itunes is disabled before you connect to the mac.
