Disappearing Song Titles
I've twice had the problem of some (but not) all of the song titles disappearing in the iTunes window. They are correctly tagged in the Library folder where they actually live.
By double clicking, the names appear for almost all of the songs but a few lose their name completely. The name can't be restored by using the edit box from the Menu either.
There is no consistency to the songs which lose their titles - some are downloads, some are burned from CD's and a few are from the Apple store. They were imported at different times.
I am running Jaguar 10.3 on an iMAC 17"

Hmmmmm...it sounds as though iTunes isn't recognizing the location of your music library. Is it stored outside of the default location?

All of my mp3 files live in the Music Library folder. When I double clicka song, the song title appears for that tune (as well as starts playing as it should) except for a few songs. Even without the title, the songs play. Everything but the title appears in the iTunes window and the actual mp3 title has a correct file name.

Wow - strange. My system just lost the artists for about 1000 songs (about a quarter of my collection). Pretty sure the files are in the right place.
Like you, double-clicking brought them back (for the few I tried).
Odd. Anyone want to help us get to the bottom of this, or at least suggest repairs?

Blazedog, it sounds like your songs aren't tagged. ID3 information is stored in the iTunes database, so it doesn't matter what you call the files in the Finder. You have to add this information in iTunes itself or in a third-party ID3 editor.

Thanks for attempting to trouble shoot.
The problem is sporadic and affects songs from different sources. I never specifically tag the files in any way as I use the import function of iTUNES or download from the Apple store or use third party software to convert streaming audio to mp3. These are my main sources of digital music and the problem happens with all of them. When it happened (twice so far), it happened all at once.
The disappearances happened AFTER the songs have been in the library for some time (greater or shorter since I could find no link between the affected tunes) and there have been no problems with them since the second episode (about a week ago).
I am used to computer trouble shooting in terms of figuring out the common denominator or what the last action was before the problem started - what stymies me with this is what appears to be the utter randomness of it. Most of the songs were restored by double clicking and even the ones whose titles weren't restored still play corrected.
